As Streiff reported last night, Attorney General Bill Barr did not mince words during a wide-ranging interview with Wolf Blitzer Wednesday, countering CNN’s “Situation Room” anchor on issues like mail-in ballot fraud, officer-involved shootings, and on China’s attempts at meddling in the 2020 U.S. elections.
The two also sparred a bit over media bias after Blitzer asked him if he’d like to stay on as Attorney General if President Trump was reelected, and referenced Barr’s time as AG under President George H.W. Bush. The longtime CNN host was clearly trying to get Barr to say that working under Bush was more preferable than working under Trump. But Barr wasn’t having it.
In fact, Barr’s reactions during this segment – especially when Blitzer laughably claimed CNN was “fair and balanced”, were both classic and priceless, which you’ll see once you watch the video that follows the partial transcript below. Here’s how the somewhat contentious exchange went down:
BLITZER: Are you enjoying what you’re doing?
BARR: I wouldn’t use the word enjoy. But it’s satisfying.
BLITZER: It’s not what you anticipated. You enjoyed it more the first time around when you were attorney general?
BARR: Well, political climate and the media was a lot different. And so —
BLITZER: And you got a different president, George H.W. Bush, you were the attorney general.
BARR: Yes. But the media should be fair and balanced no matter who the president is. [It] doesn’t give the media license to lie the way a lot of the media is.
BLITZER: I can speak for us, we are fair and balanced.
BARR: OK. [laughs]
BLITZER: I’m sure you would appreciate that.
Barr’s comments about the media, and his hilarious reaction to Blitzer’s claim that CNN is “fair and balanced” start at around the 24-second mark of the video below. Watch and make sure to listen for Barr’s laugh:
AG Bill Barr to CNN's Wolf Blitzer: "The media should be fair and balanced no matter who the president is. Doesn't give the media a license to lie the way a lot of the media is."
Blitzer: "I can speak for us, we are fair and balanced."
Barr, laughing: "Ok…"

I rarely enjoy watching CNN interviews with any Republican, but this one was a joy to watch. Barr owned Blitzer all over the place, and by the end of it Blitzer was sheepishly telling him “good luck” and that he would be welcomed back on CNN anytime before quickly moving on.
