Joy Reid officially took over the 7 pm timeslot formerly held by Chris Matthews this week, and as expected, there have been unintentionally illuminating moments galore.

Wednesday night was no exception. One of the guests the MSNBC anchor had on her new nightly “ReidOut” program was Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), a frequent guest of Reid’s and one who has never been hesitant about throwing the most bizarre, wacko conspiracy theories on the wall about Republicans in hopes that at least one or two will stick.

Her comments last night were a classic example. #Resistance™ leader Waters went on a wild rant talking about how the supposedly unidentified federal officers that were currently trying to help clean up the warzone that Portland, Oregon has become might have actually been sent by President Trump as part of a – get this – “trial run” for a possible attempt at stealing the presidential election in the event he loses:

“The people of this country had better be worried about what we’re seeing in Portland. We have these paramilitary police officers or whomever they are, they’re federal officers or agents of some kind that’s been organized by the president of the United States.

He did not contact the local mayors. He did not contact the governors. He just sent them in. Who are these people? Why did they have these kinds of uniforms on where they cannot be identified? We don’t know their names. We don’t have anything that identifies them. They have unmarked cars. They’ve been pulling people off the street and throwing them into these cars.

I want to tell you, Joy. This is what you see in countries where you have dictators. In third-world countries with dictators who have paramilitary that they can call up anytime they want. As a matter of fact, it has been suggested that this is a trial run of the president of the United States who may be organizing to not accept what happens when we have the election if he’s not elected.

Is he going to pull out his military? Is he going to engage us? He has already alluded to there may be a civil war if he’s not re-elected. This is dangerous.”

As Waters was speaking, Reid sat silently looking at her, at times nodding as people often respectfully do in acknowledging a wacky relative who was talking crazy talk. When Waters stopped speaking, Reid didn’t entertain what she had to say for another moment, giving her some obligatory lines about how “a lot of people” were asking these questions before quickly moving on to her next guests.

An MSNBC political analyst made a similar claim on “Morning Joe’s” program Tuesday, as has Obama’s former attorney general Eric Holder, so this is not just something Waters is putting out there. Apparently it’s an approved talking point to be pushed by the Democratic faithful.

Outside of the bizarro garbage about this allegedly being a “trial run” for Trump to steal the election, the claim that the federal officers in Portland are not identifiable is a despicable lie, as my RedState colleague Nick Arama noted in a piece earlier this week thoroughly debunking the oft-made suggestion.

As I’ve said before, these conspiracy theories about Trump stealing the election from Democrats like failed 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and liberal New York Times columnist Paul Krugman makes one think that they’re trying to preemptively discredit the election results in the event Trump does win. In fact, it’s almost as though the people pushing the idea that Trump will “steal” the election believe he’s got a real shot at winning, so they’re trying to delegitimize it ahead of time.

Last I checked, the only people who were on record as actually refusing to accept election results were Democrats who have been refusing to accept that Trump won for four years now, pushing forth conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory including the Russia collusion hoax and others. If we had an honest and objective mainstream media, they’d call them out on their disgusting attempts at undermining an election before it even happens but unfortunately, they’re too busy helping amplify such bogus claims.
