It has not been a very good week for the Never Trumpers at the Lincoln Project.
Streiff wrote earlier today about how it had been confirmed that Lincoln Project co-founder John Weaver was a registered agent on behalf of Russian interests in 2019. It wasn’t new news, but the timing was rather inconvenient considering the group recently released an ad painting President Trump as a Putin puppet.
In addition to that, RedState’s Jennifer Van Laar reported Wednesday night that the latest Lincoln Project filings show that the bulk of the money they took in for the first quarter “went to either people on the Board of Directors or to companies controlled by them, with the bulk of that going to Reed Galen’s Summit Strategic Communications”, which appears to confirm the LP is “a spite PAC formed to continue the losing grift its board members have perfected over the years.”
And on top of that, co-founder Rick Wilson unexpectedly got his a** handed to him in a most embarrassing way thanks to an “interview” he did this week on Stephen Colbert’s animated show “Tooning Out the News.”
With all of that in mind, you’d think the group’s more prominent members would kind of lay low to let the wave of bad news pass by without adding to it, but as history has shown us, they just can’t help themselves.
It all started after the news broke yesterday that President Trump was replacing campaign manager Brad Parscale with GOP operative Bill Stepien. On the same day, someone on Twitter invented a rumor that White House senior adviser Hope Hicks was dating Parscale.
Because Twitter is a bowl of dumb, some Twitter users suggested this was why Trump removed Parscale from his campaign manager role.
Here’s an example of a tweet about the “issue” that went viral:
Trump demoted Parscale when he found he was dating Hope Hicks, same thing that happened with Lewandowski and Rob Porter. It wasn't their sheer incompetence that got them canned, it was their virility, Trump was jealous. @realDonaldTrump

There is no evidence of any of this whatsoever. In fact, the person who is said to have started the rumor to begin with (not the above Twitter user) said it was a “joke”, but that didn’t stop Rick Wilson from joining in on the sexist pile-on. Here’s what he had to say about it:

Wilson’s participation in spreading the rumor as though it was a fact contributed to “Hope Hicks” trending on Twitter for most of the day. I won’t share what the worst was of what I saw written about Hicks, but suffice it to say that it was beyond vile and reprehensible.
Some of the “players” in the smear of Hicks have deleted their tweets about it, but not Wilson.
Decent-minded people responded accordingly:
Rick Wilson is a disgusting hack, episode 6391825 https://t.co/qtiYNQp3py

Here @TheRickWilson of @ProjectLincoln pushes a false rumor from an anon account (the anon account says it was a joke) about Hope Hicks & Brad Parscale with a false Comet Ping Pong (PizzaGate conspiracy location) allegation thrown in too. They are everything they accuse Trump of. https://t.co/eW0GCfi1hd

The entire Hope Hicks trend is based on a lie that @TheRickWilson retweeted.. "resistance" people will push anything these days. https://t.co/JQhjVBlBqY

This is the tweet from @TheRickWilson of @ProjectLincoln promoting the false claims about Hope Hicks & Brad Parscale at Comet Ping Pong together that set off an avalanche of conspiracy theorizing, sexism, & misogyny across Resistance Twitter today. Congrats to everyone involved. pic.twitter.com/mu96lWdhmc

Let me get this straight: Rick Wilson managed to throw gasoline and a match on the Pizzagate conspiracy theory and start yet another sexist rumor about Hope Hicks, and he’s still a #Resistance hero? What a piece of trash. https://t.co/CAoQa7Q0PF
