For as long as I can remember, the mainstream media has treated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) like like a political mastermind. To them, she’s a political leader who can deftly navigate and weave her way through the minefield that is Washington, D.C., sticking to her guns all while maintaining the dignity and grace that is supposed to come with the various Congressional leadership positions she’s held.

Unfortunately for Pelosi, over the last 3+ years President Trump has brought the darkside Republicans have long known existed in her out into the open. As recent events have shown, it’s now to such an extent that not even her allies in the mainstream press can cover for her anymore.

Before we get to the MSNBC video clip, a quick recap: My RedState colleague Bonchie reported Tuesday on how Pelosi despicably told a CBS Radio reporter that when it came to Republican Sen. Tim Scott’s police reform bill, Republicans were “trying to get away with murder, actually — the murder of George Floyd.”

Here’s the audio clip for anyone who missed it:

Today, Pelosi had a chance to walk back her comments after MSNBC’s Peter Alexander asked her about them – but she didn’t. Her answer was so tone deaf and bizarre that Alexander pressed her as to whether or not she believed Sen. Scott, who led the way in crafting the bill, was acting in good faith on it. She seemed perplexed for a moment as if she couldn’t believe he asked the question, and then pivoted to yada yadaing about Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY):

Peter Alexander: When you were speaking yesterday, you said Republicans are, ‘Trying to get away with murder, actually, the murder of George Floyd.’ Senate Republicans are demanding an apology for that statement. Will you apologize?

Nancy Pelosi: Absolutely, positively not. The fact is people say – I think, frankly, you, in the press, have given them far too much credit for a bill that does nothing. They’re saying, ‘Well, you have your bill. They have theirs.’ Yeah, our bill does something. Theirs does nothing.

Peter Alexander: (asks as she’s talking) Is Tim Scott working in good faith, I guess?

Nancy Pelosi: With all due respect – I’m sorry? Well, we would hope they –

Peter Alexander: Is Tim Scott working in good faith? Is this a good starting point?

Nancy Pelosi: I’m talking about Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell could open this up again and have an open Judiciary Committee consideration of a bill where they could come together and get something done.

Watch:

What utter garbage. This is not about Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell didn’t call his Democratic colleagues murderers in an interview. This is about Pelosi’s disgusting smear of Republicans including Scott who are working their a**es off to respond to the death of George Floyd and the national outcry that followed with meaningful police reform legislation that both sides could come together on. Scott spoke through tears on the floor of the Senate last week out of sheer frustration over the fact Democrats are unwilling to come to the table.

Pelosi has responded to it all by taking the low road because she doesn’t want to give off the appearance of giving Republicans and Trump any sort of legislative victory at a time when Democrats are trying to score all the racially-charged political points they can in a critical election year.

This is not about “coming together to get something done” for her nor any other Democrat in the House or Senate. This is about milking this issue for all it’s worth and drawing it out as long as possible so as to inflict maximum damage on Republicans in November.

Anyone out there truly interested in police reforms should be disgusted by what she’s doing and by the cheap games she’s playing. Like her proudly showing off the premium ice cream treats she keeps in her freezers while average Americans were struggling to make ends meet, this is not a good look for her. Not at all.
