One of the more annoying habits the White House press corps and other affiliated journalists have picked up is trying to shame Trump administration officials for either not wearing masks during public appearances, not observing adequate social distance from people standing nearby, and/or not quarantining in accordance with CDC guidelines.
They’ve done this with President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and other members of the White House’s Wuhan coronavirus task force.
But earlier today, ABC News chief White House correspondent Jonathan Karl went in a different direction with the mask-shaming. In a tweet posted late this afternoon, Karl put press corps colleague John Roberts from Fox News on blast on social media for not wearing a mask during today’s task force press briefing:
Almost everybody in the Rose Garden is wearing a mask — almost everybody. pic.twitter.com/JBnEV05HOd

Karl, who is also the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, was probably not expecting someone to step in with pictures from Cinco de Mayo which showed Karl … not wearing a mask:
You didn't wear a mask on Cinco de Mayo to pick up your tacos from Mi Vida. Why not? Is there a different standard for the media? Are there some places we have to wear masks and others we don't? pic.twitter.com/nA8L69TsEj

Ouch.
Roberts retweeted the photos, and then responded to Karl’s tweet with some comments of his own:
Facts – I was quietly seated more than 6' away from the closest person (adhering to CDC social distancing guidelines)
-When the press conference began, I put mask on.
So – what, exactly is the basis for this petty effort at shaming???? https://t.co/ctW4knjkyD— John Roberts (@johnrobertsFox) May 11, 2020
Others also pointed out the pettiness of Karl’s shame game by noting that Roberts was only without a mask briefly:
Jon Karl trying to throw some shade at John Roberts of FOX News for not wearing a mask — but it was off just for a moment. These people are so petty — while pretending to be heroes. https://t.co/a8e8hO00Rb pic.twitter.com/hRiXgDPlOs

By the way – this isn’t the first time an esteemed journalist from the White House press corps has been caught displaying hypocrisy on the issue of wearing a mask. The other one? CNN’s Jim Acosta, of course:
Second week in a row where White House reporters (@jonkarl and @Acosta) have been called out for not wearing masks after tweeting about other people not wearing masks. pic.twitter.com/cy9dK6oPb4

Here’s a bigger photo of the image of Acosta not wearing a mask at a recent press briefing while others were:
Well obviously the boss of the Honeywell facility didn’t have one, so I’m sure there are exemptions.
Meanwhile, you’re still the biggest hypocrite in the MSM. Where was your mask in this picture, Jim? pic.twitter.com/aO8fmQlsPJ

Also, let’s not forget that not a single sanctimonious DC/NYC/Beltway journalist – not a single one, including any of his colleagues at CNN – has called out Chris Cuomo for admittedly breaking quarantine while he was infected with the Wuhan coronavirus.
It’s like these journos just expect people to magically forget or not care how often media figures say one thing and do something different. Wishful thinking for sure, but it’s not gonna happen.
