The news reports about moderate House Democrats hitting the panic button over how the impeachment inquiry process is playing back home are probably getting ready to increase after the latest poll released by Quinnipiac University, which shows that for the first time since House Speaker Pelosi announced the impeachment inquiry that a majority of voters now oppose impeaching President Trump.

The Washington Times reports:

A majority of Americans now oppose impeaching and removing President Trump from office, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll Tuesday that signals Democrats’ month of hearings to make their case has failed.

Quinnipiac found 51% of registered voters surveyed said they don’t want to see the president ousted through impeachment. That’s the first time the number has been above 50% since before Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry in late September.

While Republicans and Democrats are dug into their respective positions of opposing and supporting, independents are driving the approval shift downward:

But it’s among independents where the margin is made — and they oppose impeachment 52-44, Quinnipiac found.

Previous polls that were taken just prior to and during the House Intel Committee hearings also showed a dramatic drop in support from independent voters for impeaching Trump.

A poll taken in the midst of the House Judiciary Committee’s hearings showed the impeachment issue also backfiring on Democrats in three key battleground states, with Trump ahead in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Quite simply put, under the leadership of Pelosi, Nadler and Schiff, support for impeaching Trump has all but collapsed. They can blame two things for that: impeachment fatigue, and the fact that they have not made their case.
