Bonchie wrote earlier today about a huge story from the Washington Post on Thursday where Joe Biden was found to have “jumbled elements of at least three actual events into one story of bravery, compassion and regret that never happened.”

It’s a hugely embarrassing story for Biden, coming on the heels of a month full of gaffes and misstatements he’s made on the campaign trail that have raised questions about his age and mental acuity.

Tucker Carlson discussed the news of Biden’s false war story on his Fox News program Thursday night, and during the segment he brought in Mark Steyn to weigh in with his thoughts on Biden being caught making up a war story to embellish his foreign policy creds.

Steyn ended up performing a dramatic reenactment of Biden’s story that left Carlson in stitches:

Carlson turned to Steyn, who maintained that the fictitious story was, in fact, Biden at his best. “To be fair, Tucker, this is the old Biden back,” he said. “The recent Biden of this campaign, the stumbling, bumbling, mumbling guy who can’t remember the name of Barack Obama, that’s an embarrassment. He stumbles, he trips on three-syllable words like ‘Democrat.'”

“But this is classic Biden,” Steyn went on. “This is Biden at top form, where he does this vivid, coherent, brilliant narrative, in which not a single detail is correct.”

Steyn then delivered a facetious monologue, pretending to be Biden as he recounted taking fire while president on D-Day, among other fake adventures. “This was classic Joe Biden. He’s back! His mojo has returned! His mojo knows what state it’s in.”

A slightly longer version of the video shows a still-chuckling Carlson admitting at the end that he was drooling:

All humor aside, this was – as Twitchy described it – classic Steyn, and his larger point was that this is who Joe Biden really is. Biden wouldn’t be Biden if he didn’t invent stories from time to time in an effort to impress voters and beef up his political bonafides. We learned this back during his first presidential run in 1987.

Though he dropped out of that race due to confirmed stories of plagiarism, he stayed in politics and in the Senate, and eventually became President Barack Obamas’s vice president. So Biden has never really paid a political price for the tall tales he often likes to tell.

As a result, he has been emboldened to believe he can get away with telling them. Though the mainstream media has finally caught on and has started taking a closer look at his embellishments, only time will tell if their focus on them will impact voters. So far, it hasn’t.
