Trump Teases a Possible Arkansas Gubernatorial Run for Sarah Sanders in WH Departure Announcement

President Trump announced on Twitter about half an hour ago the departure of White House Press. Sec. Sarah Sanders.

The Hill reports:

Sarah Huckabee Sanders will leave her post as White House press secretary at the end of the month, President Trump announced on Thursday.

Sanders’s departure caps off a tumultuous, two-year run as Trump’s top spokeswoman, marked by tensions with the White House press corps and the disappearance of the daily news briefing. During that time, however, Sanders became one of Trump’s closest aides and fiercest defenders.

Noting she’d be leaving by the end of the month, Trump praised her and said he hoped she’d run for the governor’s seat in Arkansas:

Her father Mike Huckabee was the Lt. Gov. of Arkansas from Nov. 1993 to July 1996 and was the Gov. of the state from July 1996 to Jan. 2007.

Former Gov. Huckabee posted this quip for his Twitter followers after Trump’s announcement:

Arkansas’s current Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson will be term-limited in 2022 which is the year the seat will be up for grabs.
