Remember when Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14) made alarming claims about how much longer we have on earth if we didn’t do something NOW on climate change?

Back in late January, the freshman Congressman regurgitated doomsday predictions in front of a crowd of supporters during an “MLK Now” event:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Monday said she thinks that there is an urgency needed in addressing man-made climate change, warning that it will “destroy the planet” in a dozen years if humans do not address the issue, no matter the cost.

During an interview at the MLK Now event in New York City honoring Martin Luther King Jr., Ocasio-Cortez told interviewer Ta-Nehisi Coates that younger Americans are looking for bold solutions to climate change, and are not concerned about the cost.

“Millennials and people, you know, Gen Z and all these folks that will come after us are looking up and we’re like: ‘The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?’ ” Ocasio-Cortez asked Coates.

Republicans added it to the list of things to mock her for, and did so relentlessly. In response, Ocasio-Cortez tried to take them to the woodshed earlier this month for having the audacity to take her comments literally when apparently they shouldn’t have or something:

This is a technique of the GOP, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and “fact check” it.

Like the “world ending in 12 years” thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal.

The thing about her 12 year prediction and the GOP is that even though they took her literally on the issue, they did not take her seriously.

On the other hand, a new poll out from Rasmussen shows that AOC’s fellow Democrats did in fact take her seriously and literally on the matter:

A Rasmussen poll, conducted earlier this week, found 67 percent of Democrats believing that the U.S. has only 12 years to avert the “disastrous and irreparable damage to the country and the world” stemming from climate change. Out of all total likely voters, 48 percent of respondents believed the apocalyptic claim.

I guess Dems have the social intelligence of a sea sponge and are basically Dwight from The Office so who knows.
