As Sam at Twitchy documented yesterday, White House adviser Kellyanne Conway called out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14) on CNN over the weekend on her lack of tweets in response to the deadly Easter Sunday Sri Lanka terrorist attacks.
The attacks left nearly 300 dead and scores more injured. Ocasio-Cortez, a prolific tweeter who frequently uses the social media platform as a bully pulpit and battering ram, was curiously silent about them.
As she so often does, the freshman Congresswoman completely missed Conway’s point and clapped back in several tweets by defensively suggesting she was attempting to question her Christian faith.
Conway corrected her in her next tweet:
1/2: Hi Congresswoman @AOC.
My best to your grandmother.
My grandmothers are irreplaceable; miss them every day.Good that you now condemn Sri Lanka massacre. Some found it odd a prolific tweeter was silent. Following day you tweeted about your movie:https://t.co/KERH0AD2je https://t.co/CpbunUz6C8

Last night, Conway appeared on Sean Hannity’s program on Fox News to discuss the issue at length. She noted how she is often called on by the mainstream media to explain President Trump’s tweets, but how AOC routinely gets a pass on hers:
“I usually leave Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and some of these other freshmen like Ilhan Omar, [Rashida] Tlaib alone because basically when they speak, it’s a gift to conservatives and to the Republican Party,” Conway said. But she told Sean Hannity that while she is pressed consistently on everything President Trump says, Ocasio-Cortez is treated like a ‘hero’ and goes unchallenged in the media.
“But I really had to call her out here because I am on television shows, and I’m asked constantly, ‘Why didn’t Donald Trump say this, why did he use that word? Where is the semi-colon in this tweet where I believe it should be.’ And I said hey, does anybody ask Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who you give a hero’s welcome to? All you fangirls ever bother to ask her why she’s been completely silent on the massacre against Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday?” Conway said.
[…]
“The very next day, still picking through the rubble in Sri Lanka, looking for survivors or of the deceased. She had time to tweet about a Netflix documentary about her,” Conway said.
Watch the segment below:
Some people have accused Conway of concern-trolling but she has a valid point here, and she’s going off the left’s rules of engagement in making her point. When Trump is silent even for a couple of hours over a breaking news story that involves injuries and our deaths , the media and progressives jump all over him. When he makes an error in his tweets, like a typo or something similar, he gets jumped on by the MSM then, too.
AOC, on the other hand, rarely is.
The media need to be more cognizant of this, and treat politicians in both parties with the same standard.
They won’t, of course, and Conway knows this. But it’s worth pointing out anyway.
