Earlier this week, I wrote about Rosie O’Donnell’s admission that she had a secret crush on Elisabeth Hasselbeck during their tumultuous time as co-hosts on ABC’s “The View” talk show. Rosie also suggested that there were “lesbian undertones” to their professional relationship, which baffled a lot of people considering the rationale she gave for her remarks:
“I think this is something that will hurt her if you write it. She was the MVP of a Division 1 softball team for two years that won the finals. There are not many, in my life, girls with such athletic talent on sports teams that are traditionally male that aren’t at least a little bit gay.”
Hasselbeck, who has been promoting her new book on the talk show circut this week, responded to the comments O’Donnell made by saying on “Fox and Friends” that she “prayed for guidance” on how to react:
“I would like to be able to say I didn’t, but I read that … and I immediately started praying” for guidance on how to react.
Hasselbeck went on to say that, “If you took her words and you replaced ‘Rosie’ [with] ‘Ronald,'” this would be considered “an objectification of women in the workplace. And so that is disturbing and it’s wrong. And whether you’re a man or whether you’re a woman and you’re objectifying women in the workplace, it’s wrong.”
Watch the “Fox and Friends” segment below:
Elisabeth Hasselbeck reacts to Rosie O'Donnell's comments about having a crush on her when they were both on The View: "If you took her words and you replaced 'Rosie' for 'Ronald' there would be an objectification of women in the workplace, and it's disturbing and it's wrong." pic.twitter.com/YOP9bAcYsW

Hasselbeck made similar points later in a segment on “The View”, and also said she was in a position now where she felt she could forgive O’Donnell. Watch below:
Elisabeth Hasselbeck calls Rosie O’Donnell's comments saying she had a crush on her "reckless, untrue, and not only insulting, [but] disturbing when it comes to how she felt about somebody in the workplace.”

Not surprisingly, O’Donnell took to the Twitter machine to respond:
hey eh – my crush on u was not sexual – sorry u got scared – ❤️surely u recall b4 it all went wrong – i never objectified u – i did find u fantastic – broadway shows – my pool -we were friends once ❤️ god love ya kid – i always did #hasselbeck #raminSUX

The “#raminSUX” hashtag was apparently Rosie’s attempt at a swipe at author Ramin Setoodeh, who wrote an upcoming book on “The View” in which the quotes from O’Donnell appear.
Hasselbeck also said in her interviews that she thought it was wrong for O’Donnell to stereotype women who liked sports as lesbians, and also said she attempted to reach out to her liberal former co-host over the phone on Monday but had a phone number that was no longer in service.
Here’s some advice for Rosie, assuming her insinuated regret over her comments is genuine: If you don’t want your words to be used against you, don’t say them. Especially to an author writing a book about where you used to work and how you got along with your colleagues.
Good grief.
