Former CBS News foreign correspondent Lara Logan gave a fascinating interview with Navy SEAL Mike Ritland last week. Anyone interested in the issue of liberal media bias and how it infects our society should watch.

In the wide-ranging Mike Drop podcast, Logan – a 3-time Emmy Award winner – said the mere act of talking about it was “career suicide” for her:

“This interview is professional suicide for me,” Logan told Ritland at the end of the revealing podcast.

Logan said she agreed with Ritland for suggesting most outlets are “absurdly left-leaning.”

“The media everywhere is mostly liberal, not just in the U.S. But in this country, 85% of journalists are registered Democrats – that’s just a fact. No one is registering Democrat when they’re really a Republican. So, the facts are on the side that you just stated: most journalists are Left, or liberal, or Democrat, or whatever word you wanna give it,” started in Logan.

“We’ve become political activists, and some could argue propagandists, and there’s some merit to that,” Logan bluntly added.

Not surprisingly, Logan’s brutally honest comments about the left-leaning nature of the mainstream media prompted CBS News to point out that she and the network went separate ways months ago:

Logan had been working for “60 Minutes” and gained a reputation for visiting dangerous locales in Afghanistan and Iraq, often embedded with U.S. armed forces. She joined CBS News in 2002 and had been one of the unit’s top foreign correspondents.

A CBS News spokeswoman said Logan left the news unit at some point in 2018. Her last piece for CBS News appears to be a May segment for “60 Minutes” about poachers slaughtering rhinoceros in South Africa.

Respected journalists going on the record about how their profession tilts left is not a new thing, but their admissions are much easier to amplify now thanks to the popularity of social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, and video sites like YouTube.

I was motivated to start a blog in 2003 precisely because of what I saw – and still see – as the pervasive nature of media bias. Here’s an abbreviated version of what I wrote on this in 2006:

Liberals who continue to deny there is a strong liberal bias in the mainstream media in the face of all these admissions to the contrary are doing nothing more than the customary burying of their heads in the sand (I call it HISS: Head In Sand Syndrome) when faced with facts they don’t want to hear.

Non-media liberals who say it’s no big deal should imagine this: A world filled with MSM outlets that are predominantly conservative, not inclusive of opposing viewpoints, while showing an insensitivity to liberal concerns. Then they’d understand why conservatives feel the way they do about the mainstream media today.

As for Lara Logan, Powerline‘s John Hinderaker says welcome to our world:

Welcome, Ms. Logan, to the wilderness. Where you may be cut off from left-wing society, but at least you can say what you really think.
