One of the founding principles of our country is the belief that everyone, regardless of guilt or innocence, is deserving of a competent and vigorous defense against any charges leveled against them in a court of law.

While recently the left has put more emphasis on the court of public opinion and on sham Impeachment Trials on imagined and fabricated offenses, custom-tailored to fit the Democrats astroturfed attempt to “Get Trump,” it still doesn’t change the fact that Trump, regardless of how guilty the left may feel he is, is deserving of a competent defense.  To suggest otherwise is, in itself, anti-American.

That fact doesn’t stop the left.  It was reported over the weekend that the home of Trump Impeachment attorney, Michael van der Veen, was attacked by leftists, because the attorney had been defending Trump during the impeachment trial.

From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Vandals smashed windows and spray-painted “TRAITOR” on the driveway of his suburban Philadelphia home Friday night, after he spent hours on the Senate floor hurling partisan invective and testily condemning the former president’s second impeachment trial as “constitutional cancel culture.”

A group of demonstrators with the group Refuse Fascism gathered outside his Center City law office chanting, “When van der Veen lies, what do you do? Convict. Convict.”

From the Hill:

“Following Trump’s impeachment trial, during which the Senate voted to acquit the former president, van der Veen detailed the damage done to his home during the proceedings.
“My home was attacked. I’d rather not go into it because it would encourage other people to do it more, but you know, I’ve had nearly 100 death threats,” van der Veen said, according to a pool report.

I really don’t know why anyone should really be surprised by this.  This is the modern left.  They hold contempt for the Constitution and the protections contained in it.  While the left’s hatred for the 1st and 2nd Amendments has been documented for years, with their belief that only certain speech is protected and that Americans do not have the right to possess firearms, it should come as no surprise that they would also like to deny their opponents of other protections contained within that document.

Evidence would also suggest that this belief is mainstream as, to date, not a single, prominent leftist has come out to denounce these fascist pigs.  It isn’t that their protests can’t be seen to contain merit.  They can.  It is in choosing that the venue for those protests must be this attorney’s home and business that it becomes a problem.

Furthermore, when the protests violently spill over into vandalism and property destruction, it should be seen as terrorism.  Van der Veen is doing his job, and if all the talk about “private companies and people doing as they please” that the left has been offering the likes of Amazon, Twitter, and Facebook is really truthful, they should leave Van der Veen alone.  Of course, like most things on the left, there is a double standard between what is allowed for them and what is allowed for the right.

All the talk of violence only being the means of fascists seems to fall flat, when actual fascists are bouncing around threatening death on someone helping another American exercise his Constitutional rights.  What do you expect, though?  This is the left, and they are shameless about it.
