GOP Congressman Calls for Special Counsel in Hunter Biden Investigation

In the final weeks of the election this year, the media ignored perhaps one of the greatest scandals in American history.  As more and more details came out about Hunter Biden’s dealings in business in both Ukraine and China, it became less and less believable that Joe Biden was as ignorant of Hunter’s doings as he claimed.

As reported here at RedState, Hunter was involved in many potentially illegal acts while his father was Vice President, even to the point of risking US National Security in the process.  Several people familiar with the case have stated that considering the different doors that needed to be opened for Hunter, it is impossible that the Vice President was unaware of his actions at the time.

Now, as a result, a GOP Congressman has suggested that a Special Counsel be appointed by Attorney General Barr, to insulate any current investigation from the potential of being fired by a Biden Administration.

From Fox News:

Republican Rep. Ken Buck on Monday urged Attorney General William Barr to appoint a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden‘s business dealings and a laptop purportedly belonging to him in order to ensure an investigation “free from political interference.”

In a letter sent to Barr, obtained by Fox News, Buck, R-Colo., urged him to “appoint a Special Counsel to investigate Mr. Hunter Biden’s conduct and the contents of his laptop that is currently in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s possession.”

“This investigation is critical to defending the integrity of our republic and ensuring a potential Biden Administration will not be the subject of undue foreign interference,” Buck wrote. “Americans have the right to know whether Mr. Biden’s reported ties to foreign governments will make him the subject of blackmail attempts or other nefarious efforts to undermine U.S. national security or otherwise improperly influence American foreign policy.”

The former Vice President has stated numerous times publicly that he has had no influence over Hunter’s Business dealings, however, again as reported here at RedState, Hunter was able to have one of his business deals approved by CFIUS, the executive branch committee that approves foreign investment in the United States.

Buck noted that the attorney general has the ability to appoint a special counsel to “investigate and prosecute any matter that would present a conflict of interest for the Department or other extraordinary circumstances.”

“Similar to when the DOJ appointed Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III, it is critical that this investigation continue free from political interference, no matter who is in the White House,” Buck wrote. “We must guarantee the integrity of our government and the security of our republic.”

He added: “As such, I urge the DOJ to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate Hunter Biden’s actions and the potentially incriminating contents of his laptop to ensure this important investigation will be completed.”

Should Biden eventually take office, he would be able to instruct his future Attorney General to drop any investigation into the matter.  Should a Special Counsel be appointed, it could potentially protect the investigation from being killed by Biden or any of his DOJ appointees.

One thing is clear: There still needs to be a full and complete investigation into Hunter and whether or not his father used any of his influence to help Hunter secure business he would not have otherwise received.
