House Oversight Democrats were downright giddy on Wednesday when they released "never-before-seen" photos and videos of Jeffrey Epstein's private island.
You could sense it.
Peppered throughout their social media post and statements were phrases that conveyed the gravity of the information they were about to regale the public with. The siren emoji, the all-caps declaration of "BREAKING" news, Rep. Robert Garcia (CA-42)—the top Democrat on the Oversight panel—boasting of their commitment to "transparency" for the good of the American people.
“These new images are a disturbing look into the world of Jeffrey Epstein and his island,” Garcia said in a press release. “We are releasing these photos and videos to ensure public transparency in our investigation and to help piece together the full picture of Epstein’s horrific crimes. We won’t stop fighting until we deliver justice for the survivors.”
It had all the tell-tale signs of a major, major story. Until it didn't.

The images initially presented by House Oversight Democrats, it turns out, were already made public by investigative journalist James O'Keefe and his O’Keefe Media Group roughly seven months earlier.
One can almost hear secret agent Maxwell Smart in the background: Missed it by that much, guys.
"Actually, @OKeefeMedia broke these photos in May," O'Keefe wrote directly to the Oversight Dems account on X. "We’re going to be asking @oversightDems for a retraction."
Will they retract? Will they even acknowledge the source? Their error?
O'Keefe went on to note that "even Time magazine" had given his media group credit for previously releasing some of the images that Democrats were labeling as "never-before-seen."
ABC News was also willing to concede that "some of the material appeared similar to material previously published by Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe several months ago."
Making it all the more breathtaking is that the already released images presented by the Democrats as new and as a commitment to transparency contained redactions.

Time notes that the Democrats released an additional 150 images, hours after the initial "bombshell." But their big story had sufficiently been tainted. You don't get to declare your drive for transparency by dropping images that were in the public sphere back in May and then plastering your little black bars of redaction all over them.
Clown show, bro.
A spokesperson for House Oversight Republicans dismissed the release almost immediately as another cherry-picked publicity stunt.
“It is odd that Democrats are once again releasing selective information, as they have done before,” the spokesperson said, according to The Hill. “The last time Democrats cherry-picked and doctored documents, their attempt to construct yet another hoax against President Trump completely collapsed.”
They truly are incapable of getting out of their own way on the Epstein story. Aside from the fact that an icon of the Democrat party, Bill Clinton, has been tied to the scandal and they seem willing to sacrifice him, the party, sensing some sort of imagined leverage against President Trump, has continuously tripped out of the gates with their releases.
They tried hiding the name of the victim in their redacted email dumps because that victim was actually someone who had stated under oath that the President never acted inappropriately with her and that she never saw him with Epstein.
They attempted to claim that Trump spent Thanksgiving with Epstein, only to have to delete their post when it was easily disproved.
One of their own, Democrat Del. Stacey Plaskett (VI-At Large), was exposed for texting the sex predator in real time during a congressional hearing, then having him steer her questioning of an anti-Trump witness like a puppet.
Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), who, if you harnessed her brain power in some manner, you might—MIGHT—be able to light a small birthday candle, committed an all-time blunder by trying to link Republicans to "a Jeffrey Epstein" only to find out later it wasn't that Jeffrey Epstein.
Amending a previous comment, this goes beyond "clown show." P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey would think it a might bit ridiculous.
