The president might be taking the phrase "drain the swamp" to a whole new level. Donald Trump, in a Truth Social post early Wednesday afternoon, announced that he, along with Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, would initiate a "fix" to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
The post subtly hints (subject to interpretation) at an actual renovation rather than routine maintenance or water drainage.
The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was completed in 1923 as the centerpiece of the National Mall’s monumental core. It is an awe-inspiring 2,000-foot-long mirror that links the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.
Iconic moments—including Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech, Obama's pre-inaugural event in 2009, and Private Forrest Gump's much-ballyhooed Vietnam War speech and subsequent reunion with Jenn-ay—have been captured there.
The site, which draws millions of visitors each year, saw major renovations completed in August 2012, when it was fully drained and reconstructed with a new watertight lining, among other fixes.
Now, Trump suggests it might be getting another makeover of sorts.
"This is the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool before Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, and I fix it," Trump announced in a post, which shows the pool suffering from some cleanliness issues.

The last significant renovations were performed under Barack Obama. Nobody complained. Nobody thought twice about it. They'll protest this somehow because it's Trump.
Now, the president might very well just be hinting at a routine draining and cleaning of the reflecting pool in time for America's upcoming 250th anniversary festivities. But for liberals still reeling from the recent demolition of the White House’s East Wing to make way for a new ballroom, this post is almost assuredly going to trigger some outrage.
Does Trump's "fix" mean something more? Does his suggestion that "you won't be seeing" it anymore mean the President is going to tear it down and replace it with a massive (the biggest you've ever seen) personal hot tub with gold-encrusted fixtures?
The terrifying thoughts that must be running through the ballroom outrage squad's heads right now.
The President perfectly trolls them too, playing Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli's "Con te partirò," with the lyrics "time to say goodbye" kicking off the video.
In reality, Trump's project has already been underway to some degree, with the National Mall's official X account showing a scrubber being used to clean the pool of fallen leaves and other unmentionables left behind by the geese.

Still, it'll be interesting to see the reaction from the left on this one, considering the tears that were flowing over the East Wing. Trump could personally go out and pick up a handful of leaves from the pool, and they would accuse him of vandalism.
This is the same crowd that wouldn't let him build a National Garden of American Heroes, cheering Joe Biden when he issued an executive order nixing it.
The President also recently unveiled plans for a new "Independence Arch" near the Lincoln Memorial to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. The man never tires of making D.C.—and America—beautiful again.
