Senator Kennedy Rips AOC As Only He Can, While Top Dem Presidential Prospect Doesn’t Rule Out 2028 Run

Louisiana Senator John Kennedy continued his reign as the most quotable member of Congress with his latest description of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

In an interview with Fox News personality Sean Hannity, Kennedy described the Democratic New York congresswoman as only he can.

Hannity prompted the Republican senator by discussing how the resistance party has refused to pivot even an inch since they were wiped out in the election, noting they are now the party of the Squad, "grandpa Bernie [Sanders]," AOC, and Jasmine Crockett.

Kennedy replied that he believes "Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is the leader of the Democratic Party today."

He may very well be correct. The Democrats are now being led by some of the more extreme members of the party. And she's the clear-cut leader of that clan. While that is scary for the nation in general, it should be frightening for her party as well. Since, as Kennedy explains, AOC isn't the ideal face going forward.

"I think it’s Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez," Kennedy surmised of Democrat leadership. "And as I’ve said before, she’s entitled to her opinions. You know, my personal opinion is that God gave her a billy goat brain and a mockingbird mouth, you know?"

Comedy. Freaking. Gold.

What makes comedy effective is that it includes some level of truth. Is there anybody outside Ocasio-Cortez's inner circle who doesn't recognize this truth?

"Look, I believe in the power of ideas, and my Democratic colleagues have no ideas," the Senator added. "All they have is hatred for one man, even when he’s right, and that is President Trump. And I don’t think that’s healthy for them."

Kennedy's latest comments are right on par with his description of AOC earlier this month in another appearance with Hannity.

“She's entitled to her opinion. I'm entitled to mine," he said. "As I've said before, I think she’s the reason there are directions on a shampoo bottle. Our plan for dealing with her is Operation Let Her Speak.”

If Kennedy ever decides to retire from the Senate, a place will be waiting for him on the comedy club circuit. It's not the first time he's used the phrase. In 2018, he described former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi similarly.

As for his assertion that Ocasio-Cortez is the leader of the Democratic party, the congresswoman did not rule out a potential 2028 presidential run in an exchange with political correspondent Nicholas Ballasy on Tuesday.

AOC joked about a recent campaign-style video on social media last week that sparked rumors about her political future and sidestepped the conversation.

“Listen, it’s a video. And frankly, I think what people should be most concerned about is the fact that Republicans are trying to cut Medicaid right now and people’s healthcare is in danger," she told Ballasy. "That’s really what my central focus is.”

“For me, this moment isn’t about campaigns or elections or about politics."

In short, not a 'No.' She's testing the waters.

Election analyst Nate Silver predicts that Ocasio-Cortez is the most likely Democratic presidential candidate for 2028.
