There's an old saying often attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte: Never interfere with your enemy when he is making a mistake.
The Democratic Party has committed a veritable stampede of mistakes in the last few years, most notably the calamitous mistake of anointing Kamala "Queen of Word Salads" Harris as their 2024 standard-bearer. They have reacted to their electoral shellacking predictably; "The voters didn't buy our socialism, so now we must socialism harder" appears to be their new tactic.
Now, election analyst Nate Silver thinks that, in 2028, they may not only stay on the Crazy Train, but tie down the safety valves and open the throttle wide. How so?
He thinks they'll make Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez their barely-old-enough presidential candidate.
“Squad” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is currently the most likely Democrat to lead the party’s presidential ticket in 2028 if she decides to run, election data whiz Nate Silver predicted.
Silver made his early call in the form of a “2028 Democratic primary draft” discussion on his “Silver Bulletin” Substack with “GD Politics” podcast host Galen Druke, who beat him to the pick.
It's pretty early to be making these kinds of predictions, but given the level of (in) sanity exhibited by Democrats on the national level lately, it wouldn't be at all surprising if they're both right.
Druke pointed to a recent Yale University poll that found Ocasio-Cortez had one of the highest net favorability ratings among Democrats at +60 points.
That same poll put Ocasio-Cortez in second place in a hypothetical 2028 Dem primary behind former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I think there’s a lot of points in her favor at this very moment,” Druke explained. “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has broad appeal across the Democratic Party.”
“I think equally important is the fact that she has very fervent support. I think a lot of people are gonna run in 2028 and it’s going to be a contest for attention and getting those sort of people who might be in your boat to turn out and stay with you through thick and thin.”
OK, did we need any more evidence that the Democratic voters have gone bat-guano crazy?
But here's the thing: For today's Democrats, AOC may be the perfect candidate.

AOC Called Out for Using Another Weird Accent at Latest Rally: ‘So Fake, Cringe’
For one thing, like most Democrats, AOC seems to lack understanding of the difference between noise and signal, and in her speechifying as well as in interviews, she leans heavily into noise. (Have you noticed that in almost every photo of her, her mouth is open?)
For another, she has no sense of integrity. Her career has been a tissue of whoppers, from crying fake tears outside an empty parking lot to her infamous attending of the enormously expensive Met Gala in an equally expensive dress with "Tax the Rich" emblazoned across her fundament. Which, I have to say, is a bit of placement that is more appropriate than many might understand.
In other words, she's today's Democratic Party, in a crazy little nutshell.
But as a presidential candidate? Again, it is very early to be making these kinds of predictions, especially as many of us are still wincing at the last remnants of our hangovers from celebrating Donald Trump's re-election. But were we to make a prediction as to who the 2028 Republican candidate will be, it's not at all unreasonable to think that JD Vance has the spot if he chooses to take it.
Forget the campaigns. Forget the contrast in speechifying. Forget the loony-tunes policy positions AOC would advocate. Instead, imagine the debates. Remember how JD Vance made mincemeat out of Minnesota's Tim Walz, who was reduced to staring at the moderators with hoptoad eyes while Vance defenestrated him? And Tim Walz is a more experienced and capable pol than AOC - not that this is setting the bar very high. AOC would campaign and debate as though she was still running in her deep-blue New York House district, and I think we can all predict the likely result of that.
To national Democrats, I can only say this: Please do this. Please make AOC your candidate. Please, please, please, please, please.
