Karine Jean-Pierre, the former White House press secretary under President Joe Biden, has been named a grand marshal for this year's NYC Pride events.
Organizers suggest she was an obvious choice due to her being a trailblazing icon in the LGBT community.
In a statement to CBS News, Chris Piedmont, the Media and Communications Director for NYC Pride, confirmed Jean-Pierre's participation in the events on June 29th, including one of the country's largest pride marches.
"It goes back to that trailblazing career that she's had in politics and representing the community at the highest microphone that exists," he said.

This year's theme for NYC Pride echoes sentiments from the resistance movement, in which they feel the urge to protest the current administration because of wholly fantasized attacks on their civil rights.
In fact, the theme is called: “Rise Up: Pride in Protest.”
“The challenges we face today, particularly in this political climate, require us to stand together in solidarity," Kazz Alexander, co-chair of the event, suggests. "We must support one another, because when the most marginalized among us are granted their rights, all of us benefit."
"Pride is not merely a celebration of identity—it is a powerful statement of resistance, affirming that justice and equity will ultimately prevail for those who live and love on the margins.”
Resistance last year involved the arrest of ten pro-Palestinian protesters. With Trump back in the White House, it seems reasonable to expect at least more of the same.

The NYC Pride event organizers remind attendees and participants that nudity below the waist is prohibited based on New York law. Thank goodness for small favors.
In many ways, Jean-Pierre is certainly a logical fit to grand marshal the event. She truly was an icon in the Biden administration. When it came to qualifications, she checked off every box favored by former President Biden—not experience, ability, or intellect, but rather being female, black, and lesbian.
She was a trailblazer in the White House, making the phrase "uh, uh, uh" practically a staple of press briefings. She also showed off her rapier wit by telling reporters she'd get back to them regarding basic facts, even as she arrived armed with her trusty binder of (mis)information.
Jean-Pierre spent years telling the American people how competent and fit her former boss was—even suggesting he ran circles around her physically and mentally—until that House of Cards fell at the presidential debate.
She was what one might call an idiot savant, though she was strongly lacking in the savant part. Say what you want about her, but Jean-Pierre's star continues to shine, having now reached the pinnacle of the LGBT community.
That, and a few dollars, might get you a cup of coffee.
