Another Tuesday, another set of primaries. This week, it’s primaries in Florida and New York, (with special elections in New York and runoffs in Oklahoma, as well). Here’s what to keep an eye on per DDHQ:

FLORIDA

Overview: Polls close at 7:00 pm Eastern/Central (the Sunshine State spans two time zones). There are 28 Congressional districts (one added following reapportionment). Winners are first-past-the-post.

There are Democrat and Republican primaries for the House seats. No Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat, but Democrat Val Demmings is expected to win the nomination for the Senate seat and face off against incumbent Republican Marco Rubio in November.

Republican “Top Gov” Ron DeSantis has no primary challenger, so the gubernatorial focus will be on the Democratic contenders, which include former Republican/Independent Charlie Crist (currently U.S. House Representative for the 13th District) and Nikki Fried, Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture.

NEW YORK

Overview: Polls close at 9:00 pm Eastern. There are 26 Congressional districts (one less following reapportionment). Winners are first-past-the-post. While New York’s primaries were initially held in June, the House primaries are being held now due to court rulings striking down the initial maps.

New York 19 and 23 are holding special elections. The primaries are for each of the House districts but the fascinating one is New York 12, where current Democrat Representatives Jerrold Nadler and Carolyn Maloney are facing off compliments of redistricting. That one’s taken an ugly turn, as RedState’s Sister Toldjah reports.

OKLAHOMA 

Overview: Polls close at 7:00 pm Eastern. The runoff races require 50 percent plus one to win.

All three of the Oklahoma races today are runoffs: a Republican runoff for the Second Congressional District, and Democrat and Republican runoffs for the Senate seat. Republican Markwayne Mullin currently serves as the Representative for the Second District. He faces T.W. Shannon in the GOP Senate runoff.
