TOP O' THE MORNIN'

Red-Hot at RedState

Journalist Explains Why Vance Was Escorted From WHCD First, and It Says a Lot About Trump

But it says a lot about him that he wanted to prioritize his wife and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt before himself. He has real courage under fire, as he showed in Butler. Leavitt had just had her last briefing on Friday because she's about to have the baby this week, and is going to be taking time off.

Obama’s Dishonest Hot Take on WHCD Shooting Gets Rightfully Ripped

Is he thinking that if he doesn't acknowledge the political motivation, people will ignore it?

Hell Freezes Over As Media Reveals Remarkable Actions Trump Took After WHCD Shooting

Will this change the media at all? I'd like to hope it would, but I wouldn't bet on it because they are who they are.

Trending Across Townhall Media

Bearing Arms — Gun Control Advocates: About Those Hunting Rifles We Said Were Okay…

That's too cute by half. The reason why the Supreme Court noted that handguns were in common use today for self-defense is because the case dealt with the licensing of carrying handguns for self-defense.

HotAir — Manifesto Released: He Believed All the Lies the Democrats Now Claim They Never Said

Dana Bash dipped her toe in the water, but a real journalist would have put together a supercut of Jamie Raskin saying the vilest things about Trump and asked him how he could defend them.

PJ Media — Political Fallout of Yet Another Assassination Attempt: Danger for the Dems!

Don’t expect any mea culpas from the media. The press isn’t honest enough — or self-aware enough — to recognize its own culpability. From its point of view, Donald Trump is solely responsible for our hyper-politicized age; it was all his fault.

Townhall — Barack Obama Did Not Just Say That About the WHCA Shooting

Yeah, Obama is still lying. What else is new?

Twitchy — Dems' FAVORITE Narrative Bites the DUST --> WHCD Shooter’s Old Posts Expose EXACTLY Who Radicalized Him

We suppose if our side were consistently the fascist, violent one, we too may try to spin reality.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

Going to be a busy week on Capitol Hill, and they're kicking off Monday with the following hearings/meetings:

Not only will it be busy, but it also looks to be a contentious week on the Hill.

FISA Section 702 expires Thursday. The House will try to pass a farm bill and a GOP-drafted budget resolution to allow funding for the Department of Homeland Security, including ICE and Border Patrol. The DHS shutdown has now reached a disastrous 72 days.

White House What's Up

Fresh off a wild Saturday night at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner and a third assassination attempt, President Trump has a big Monday in store:

Late add/update: White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has apparently delayed her maternity leave, as she will be holding a press briefing Monday at 1:00 PM Eastern:

Keeping Up With the Cabinet

Sec. Health & Human Services - Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — Continuing the MAHA movement, Kennedy recently announced that Aldi has agreed to remove a number of unhealthy ingredients from its private-label products.

Full Court Press...

We had a couple of court cases of note on Friday:

And the Supreme Court is holding oral arguments again this week. On Monday, it's:

COMING ATTRACTIONS

King Charles III will address a joint meeting of Congress on Tuesday.

Oral argument in the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) cases will be held before SCOTUS on Wednesday.

MORNING MUSING

"A picture's worth a thousand words," they say. I couldn't help but be reminded of that when, in the aftermath of the WHCD shooting, I saw an image of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth standing over his wife at their table, shielding her and others from the potential threat. He looked alert, in full assess-the-threat mode. Ready to roll if need be.

And then I was reminded of one of the iconic images of his predecessor, Lloyd Austin.

That's all I have to say about that...
