As RedState reported, the murder of 18-year-old Loyola University freshman Sheridan Gorman last Thursday has once again brought the issue of sanctuary city policies having deadly consequences to the forefront, an uncomfortable topic for Democrats seeking to reinvent themselves as tough on crime ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Though Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) is up for reelection this cycle, history suggests he is likely to win another term in his blue state, despite the best efforts of people who have worked tirelessly to get the word out about his dismal record on jobs, the economy, crime, and illegal immigration, the latter of which has literally cost people their lives.

Tragically, one of those people was Gorman, who was out with friends early Thursday morning, walking the Chicago lakefront, when the suspect, 25-year-old Venezuelan illegal immigrant Jose Medina, allegedly approached them and opened fire as they ran away, killing her.

Among the criticisms Pritzker has faced in the aftermath is the fact that last summer and fall, he was busy trying to mock President Trump's claims about the Windy City being unsafe by putting out videos of himself walking the Chicago lakefront, stating Trump's claims were wrong. Left out, of course, was that Pritzker undoubtedly was surrounded by a security team. Also left out was that he deliberately picked a place other than the subway or troubled Chicago neighborhoods to tout the supposed greatness of the city.

But another criticism related to him not bothering to put out a single statement about Gorman's murder, even after the case received national attention. Instead, the initial statement came four days later, on Monday, from a spokesperson who spent half of it whining about the alleged politicization of the Gorman case.

In an update to this story, Pritzker has finally put out a formal statement, releasing it on Monday night. Let's just say it left a lot to be desired:

Sheridan Gorman's murder is a tragedy — and the person responsible must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and Loyola University community grieving this devastating loss.

May her memory be a blessing.

What would be a blessing would be Gorman being alive, and for craven politicians like Pritzker to be nowhere near a position of authority.
