Water Cooler 5/1/2016 OPEN THREAD – Green Zone Protests, AfD Conference, May Day & Baby Parts

Iraq Green Zone Protests

Sunni Muslims have called off their protests in the Green Zone in Baghdad for the time being. Sunni clerics aren’t happy with the current configuration of government, and factions aren’t happy with each other.

The fear of a rift between Shia factions will stoke instability in Iraq, which is already at war with IS. And the crisis will alarm key allies like the US, which count on a stable, strong government to defeat the militant group.

This instability will continue to grow worse as oil revenues remain low coupled with the US’s inability to have any coherent Middle East policy.

Alternative fur Deutschland Conference

A German right wing party adopted an anti-Muslim platform at their latest conference (italics mine).

Delegates at a party conference adopted a ban on minarets, the call to prayer and the full-face veil, saying Islam was “not part of Germany”.

Xenophobes are always listed as right wing in Europe. I bring this up because if Trump is successful in getting the GOP nomination, the same thing will happen here.

May Day Protests

It’s May Day today, which means commies around the world have to break stuff while protesting that they don’t all have high-paying jobs with lots of free goodies where they don’t have to actually work.

Trade unions and other groups staged rallies around the world to mark International Workers’ Day.

If they only worked this hard at their job…

Louisiana Abortion Laws

Louisiana lawmakers, by a vote of 83-0 (HB 1081), have made it against the law to perform an abortion that rips an unborn child apart in the womb as they’re removing it.

“Notwithstanding any other provision of law, it shall be unlawful for any person to intentionally perform or attempt to perform a dismemberment abortion and thereby kill an unborn child unless necessary to prevent serious health risk to the unborn child’s mother”

This follows on the heels of HB 1019 (75-1) which outlaws abortions because of genetic abnormality and a bill (HB 386) extending the waiting period for an abortion.

States continue to do what isn’t going to be done at the federal level. Unfortunately, unless Cruz is elected, most of these laws will soon be struck down as Unconstitutional, changing our country to one that has removed its three reasons for existence… promoting Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness Anything You Feel Like Doing or Being Today.

That’s it for today’s Water Cooler. Sorry for the late posting… what was supposed to be a lazy day turned into a busy one. Enjoy your springtime, well those of you that are actually getting one. Here in Colorado, we still aren’t done with winter.
