President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had been warning the Iranian regime that "Economic D-Day" was coming if they didn't make a deal.
Iranian civilian leaders had already indicated that the regime was in trouble, and the parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said they "could not endure" if the economic pressure continued.

Now Bessent has laid down the gauntlet of secondary sanctions, saying they are launching "Operation Economic Outcast," cutting off all of Iran's connections to anyone who might support them. Bessent affirmed that anyone who still dealt with Iran would face economic sanctions from the U.S., comparing it to D-Day, where there was a "campaign to target and drive the enemy from its positions, including those in third countries."

"We are launching an economic onslaught against Iran's financial connections around the globe.
Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone."
He spoke about how they'd been at war with us and much of the rest of the world for 47 years, and now under President Donald Trump, they (the administration) were ending the threat.
Iran has two choices, he explained: global isolation and a subsistence economy or a return to normalcy. He said they had taken actions to foreclose any other options with Economic Outcast.
The U.S. has the receipts to drop on them if they do not comply: "Treasury has mapped every node, every facilitator, and every network that Iran has used to smuggle oil and evade sanctions."
"The final refuge of this regime is a mistaken conclusion of nations that still finance the Iranian threat in the hopes of evading it," Bessent said. That would not be allowed, he added.
Bessent said the president had made calls to world leaders asking them to cease interaction with Iran.
Not only is the U.S. cutting Iran off from everyone else who might help them, but they're also using a three-pronged approach, through State, the Department of War, and Treasury, to drop the hammer on the regime. He said teams from those three departments were now meeting with global counterparts to tell them the U.S. expects action.

Bessent stated that countries that stand with the U.S. will benefit from the partnership; those who do not will be isolated with Iran. Everything must be shut down, he made clear: "The clock just started ticking."
He laid out how the sanctions target five of Iran's lifelines with other countries: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. He explained that Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control was right now sanctioning 60 entities and vessels around the world involving illicit nuclear and missile technology, cyber operations, and generating oil revenue.
Bessent made it clear: Any economic engagement with Iran would expose those responsible to the "full reach of American power."
A reporter asked about China, and Bessent left no doubt: No one would be exempt.

"No one is above the reach of US sanctions, and that if they facilitate transactions and are part of the ecosystem that turns Iranian oil into money, into repression, they will be targeted...we know who they are. When the hammer of U.S. sanctions falls on them, they will have no one to blame but themselves."
No wonder the Iranian regime is freaking out. They should.
