Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's girlfriend, singer Katy Perry, threw a bit of a tantrum about the White House using some of her music in a video that showed a U.S. bombing attack on Iran.

I wrote this song to be an anthem of hope, healing, and inner strength for people going through their darkest personal moments. To see a message of self-worth and upliftment weaponized to soundtrack destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song stands for.
My music is for bringing people together, not celebrating warfare.
Except there are a few problems with Perry's tantrum.
The most important one is that Perry sold the majority of her music catalog — including "Firework" — in 2023, in a deal reportedly for $225 million. She doesn't own the rights anymore, so what is she even talking about? If she wanted to keep control of it, she shouldn't have sold the rights.
Whether or not she gets it, she's also taking a shot at our military while they're in harm's way, when she's terming it a "soundtrack to destruction and violence." In addition to standing for the mission to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, they've also been defending shipping that the Iranian regime was targeting. She probably doesn't even understand that. That video looks like it's hitting the coastal defenses. Those actions have generally been helping to take out the Iranian regime facilities targeting commercial ships, helping to facilitate movement through the Strait.
However, the White House Deputy Communications Director Kaelan Dorr also had a humorous, pithy response to Perry, "This you?"

That's clips from Perry's music video for the singer's 2012 song, "Part of Me," with U.S. Marines and undergoing military training alongside service members. The bombs in the video and the strangling three seconds in look pretty "violent."
So apparently it was okay to film that under Barack Obama in 2012? Nice hypocrisy there.
Perhaps all this is understandable, given her very liberal, no longer prime minister of Canada boyfriend.
