Watch: Doug Burgum's Savage Schooling of Media Over Reflecting Pool

It's been something to watch the left and liberal media have a meltdown over President Donald Trump repairing the Reflecting Pool for America's 250th birthday. You would think that most normal people would welcome the attempt to fix the leaks. But there's the answer right there: It is not normal, and all they have known and done for ten years is attack.

It wasn't only the Reflecting Pool, either — Trump was cleaning up the monuments and fixing the fountains that had been left in such disrepair for years.

Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum spoke about the effort on the Sunday shows and said it's something we should take pride in. Here he is with Dana Bash on CNN.

Then, as our sister site Townhall reported, the liberal media went all in trying to find fault, with Bash asking why the Pool was closed off on July 4th.

Burgum leveled her good, explaining it is always closed off on July 4th because of the fireworks display.

“No, it was closed because the largest fireworks display in the country was set up, and it lines either side of the Reflecting Pool. You can't have people around fireworks when they're being set up. Now that the fireworks will come down, the fence will come down. The fence was there because of the fireworks.”

Reality always conflicts with their effort to play "gotcha" when it comes to Trump.

ABC's George Stephanopoulos tried a similar move, talking about costs, but Burgum also laid him out, explaining all the things that had been fixed and/or cleaned up, including the Pool.

Burgum explained how they've fixed 48 monuments and 22 fountains "that hadn't had water going for years," and eliminated over "1000 graffiti sites." Plus, they've also helped to bring the crime stats down.

As for the pool, he pointed out how $34 million had been spent before. That was under Barack Obama, and that didn't fix the leaks — it was still leaking 45,000 gallons a day. But now they've stopped the leaks, which was the whole point of the effort, and he said the nanobubblers were taking care of the algae.

So they're going to have to find something else to whine about.
