Hot Takes: Obama's Effort to Attack Trump on Weaponization Accidentally Backfires on Him

I'm not sure I've ever seen a former president out hitting the trail to encourage people to come to his presidential library. But Barack Obama is doing exactly that, from a May the Fourth post with Star Wars actor Mark Hamill to doing an interview with Stephen Colbert about his presidential center.

We reported earlier on how involved Obama was with the design and how they were selling an ugly blob of a pin, which represented the ugly building well.

But the real ugly legacy that Obama left was the division he stoked with a smooth smile.

This is a good example, where he says he really wants a "loyal opposition" Republican Party — even as he gets in multiple shots at them in the process.

"I'm worried about the Republican Party, not just the Democrat Party. When I was president, people would ask me, 'What change would you like to see in Washington?' I'd say, I'd love a loyal opposition. I'd love a Republican Party that was conservative in some ways, that didn't agree with me on a whole bunch of stuff, but believed in rule of law and judicial independence and the empirical evidence of science, and wasn't constantly tapping into our worst impulses."

Talk about projection. We'd love to have back a Democratic Party that didn't push radical leftism and spurn the rule of law when it comes to things like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

But Obama wasn't done with the absurd yet.

"The White House shouldn't be able to direct the attorney general to go around prosecuting whoever," Obama said when asked about what powers he believes presidents should not have.

"The idea is that the attorney general is the people's lawyer. It's not the president's consigliere," he added.

"You can't have a situation where whoever is in charge of the government starts using that to go after their political enemies or reward their friends," Obama continued.

("Consigliere" means counselor, but it's a term some are familiar with for its use in Mafia families.)

Is Obama kidding with this?

Does everyone remember how Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder declared in 2013 that he was Barack's "wingman"? He said he wasn't leaving his position, "I’m still the President’s wing-man, so I’m there with my boy."

How about the IRS treatment of the Tea Party, the seizing of the AP and James Rosen's phone records, the CIA spying on the Senate scandal?

Oh, and of course, Russiagate. The Department of Justice is now looking into the Russia probe, with Joe DiGenova recently appointed to spearhead the probe.

Then, can we talk about the targeting of Trump during Joe Biden's time?

Obama was shredded as many weighed in with their thoughts. Many pointed to the treatment of Donald Trump and people associated with him.

NOW: Barack Hussein Obama is getting RIPPED for dropping this line with a straight face"

The White House shouldn't be able to direct the Attorney General to go around prosecuting whoever the president wants prosecuted!"

WILL CAIN: "That's RICH enough now to pucker your face!""

Our current president had plenty of political prosecutions targeting him. You have the Russia probe in 2016, which started when Obama was still in office."

"Trump was federally charged in the election in document cases, both dismissed."

"And don't forget the local law fair, the Manhattan criminal case related to record keeping and the New York attorney general suing him over his business practices!"

"But never mind THAT. Obama says he would love a Republican party that believes in the rule of law!" @willcain

The White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson termed Obama "king of weaponization" and alleged that "documents declassified last year revealed he was present for key meetings that led to critical steps in the opening of the Russia Hoax investigation against President Trump."

The Obama team has denied the allegations.
