What 60 Minutes Tried to Leave Out: Trump Admin's Statements on Illegal Immigration

The left had a meltdown when the editor-in-chief of CBS News, Bari Weiss, pulled a segment of 60 Minutes about illegal aliens and the CECOT prison in El Salvador.

Weiss yanked it, saying it wasn't ready and needed more reporting. She also outlined in a memo why she felt the story was lacking.

When that memo and more facts came out, it was clear it had been pulled for good reasons. Among the problems? It didn't contain a current comment from the Trump administration. The comments from the correspondent on the story in response to other staff appeared to indicate that they hadn't gotten a response from the administration, and referred to the government's "silence."

However, then, reports indicated they'd actually received three different responses: from the Department of Homeland Security, the State Department, and the White House. Yet they didn't run any of them, including the 300-word response from DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

New Report Raises Even More Questions About That Spiked 60 Minutes Illegal Alien Story

Here's the response from the White House, and it's clear to me why they didn't include it - it completely blows the narrative focus on the "poor illegal aliens" of the 60 Minutes piece, and puts focus back on what should matter: American citizens.

The statement from White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said, according to the New York Times, “60 Minutes should spend their time and energy amplifying the stories of Angel Parents, whose innocent American children have tragically been murdered by vicious illegal aliens that President Trump are [sic] removing from the country.”

It also raises a good question. Where are those Angel parents' stories in the liberal media? The liberal press doesn't seem interested. Indeed, it's the White House or conservative sites that have to highlight those stories. Why does the liberal media appear to care more about illegal aliens? Why don't they want to hear from people like Angel Mom Agnes Gibboney, who talks about the "real family separation"?

The 60 Minutes segment aired on TV in Canada through the Global Television app. They only included an old, brief comment from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and an old comment from President Donald Trump praising El Salvador's prisons, despite having the new comments in response to the specific story to provide rebuttal/balanced current context.

So it's easy to see why Weiss thought this wasn't going to cut it and demanded more balance.

As we reported, she's now going to overhaul all the CBS News shows to have common editorial standards and procedures that they have to follow. That's going to help journalism. So we're likely to see more liberal media tantrums in response, as she works to get things in hand.
