Americans are not happy with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. They've left him a lump of coal for Christmas in the latest Gallup approval poll.
The Senate minority leader got the worst approval rating out of all top US political leaders in a new survey.
The New York Democrat notched just a 28% job approval rating, the lowest of 13 politicians named in the Gallup Poll released Tuesday.
He's lower than President Donald Trump, whom he frequently attacks.
Even worse for him? Unlike Trump, who is very popular with Republicans, Schumer is like putting cheese on a raw burger in the eyes of his own party.
“Schumer’s rating among his own party has worsened markedly. Two years ago, 76% of Democrats approved of his job and 20% disapproved, but now 39% approve and 56% disapprove,” Gallup said in its analysis.
Yikes, they really, really hate him.
He was already unpopular before the government shutdown. But it was how he handled that, making it the longest shutdown ever, then not appearing to walk away with any of what the Democrats claimed they wanted, that made people even madder at him.
Schumer is also very unpopular in his home state.
A Siena College poll of New York state voters taken last month also showed Schumer with his lowest approval rating in 21 years of surveys. A majority of voters in deep blue New York had an unfavorable view of the longtime senator.
Schumer was also the least popular Senate leader since the 1980s, as CNN data guru Harry Enten explained in November. He's probably also one of the big reasons that the general approval of Congressional Democrats was so low at 18 percent in a recent Quinnipiac poll. The Democrats are in such a hole that they were even too afraid to release the DNC autopsy report about why they lost in 2024.

Those numbers for Schumer are likely to fully embolden people like Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), who might want to challenge Schumer for his seat.
Schumer's people were trying to put the best face on it.
“Democrats finished the year strong and on their front foot as the only party focused on fighting to protect healthcare and lowering costs for people, which Schumer has championed,” said Schumer campaign spokesman Angelo Roefaro.
Except all of that is complete nonsense. They didn't lower or protect anything; that's why their own people are mad at Chuck. It was the Democrats who created the healthcare problem with the very unaffordable Affordable Care Act, as well as subsidies scheduled to end this month. Then they tried to blame the Republicans for the mess they had ushered in.
Democratic activist groups have already promised to primary Schumer after the shutdown debacle.

Expect Chuck to have another meltdown with the next potential battle over government funding in January as he desperately tries to figure out how he can improve his numbers to stay in office.
