WH Smacks Down Media Spin on Trump’s Schumer Shutdown Reaction

I suppose it would be hard to assess what the worst liberal media take on the government shutdown has been.

But I have to give props for how bad this take was from MSNBC Morning Joe host Jonathan Lemire. He also writes for The Atlantic, and it shows. This tweet is supposed to entice you to read one of his Atlantic articles. He claimed that President Donald Trump was "MIA" and was ignoring the government shutdown.

Now, let's start out with what's fascinating here: Whose fault is the Schumer Shutdown, Jon?

Oops, I gave it away with that description. It isn't Trump or the Republicans who are keeping the government closed — it's the Democrats with their votes. Trump can't manufacture the 60 votes needed to end the shutdown. That's all on Democrats. The president doesn't have a vote. But you don't see that in Lemire's tweet. We're just supposed to forget about that. As with everything with liberal media, Trump is somehow at fault...even when he isn't.

Then, too, Trump is far from "MIA" as the White House Rapid Response account pointed out. They were curt, calling Lemire a "dumb***."

"MIA," Lenore? Dumbass.

"While useless Dems keep govt closed, POTUS is wrapping a long-planned Asia trip where he has secured billions in new investment, ended a war, and inked multiple trade/critical minerals deals," they scolded him. They also noted that Trump had addressed the shutdown many times. He's also met with Democratic leaders, as well.

Here are just a couple of examples, including when Trump called on Democrats to "stop the madness."

So no, he has not "ignored" the shutdown.

Meanwhile, Democrats have been voting against opening the government with a clean continuing resolution. They have been voting to deny pay to the military, not fund SNAP, and not pay working federal employees. All because they want to hold the American people hostage for their political agenda.

Lemire was also ripped by others for the bad take.
