There was a crazy situation at a Coast Guard base in California on Thursday night.
Coast Guard security fired on a U-Haul as it backed toward them at a bridge entrance to the base.

Dramatic video shows the box truck with its headlights on reversing toward security personnel stationed around a vehicle outside Coast Guard Base Alameda at around 10 p.m.
Moments later, flashes of gunfire erupted as officers shouted orders from a barricade. The U-Haul driver then hit the gas and accelerated forward.
The security shouted multiple times for the truck to stop before they fired.
"When the vehicle’s actions posed a direct threat to the safety of Coast Guard and security personnel, law enforcement officers discharged several rounds of live fire," the agency said in a statement.
Reportedly, the truck had been parked outside the base for a good part of the day, and the driver fled after the shooting.
A man believed to be the driver showed up at a hospital with injuries, as did a second person, according to the Mercury News. Fortunately, no base personnel were injured in the incident.
You can see that the driver appears to have a face mask on, and you might have noticed that the local news covering the shooting mentioned "protesters."
The incident followed a protest outside the entrance on Thursday, during which demonstrators attempted to block U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents from entering the base, according to WABC-TV.
Dozens of California Highway Patrol officers wearing riot gear tried to disperse the crowd in order to allow civilian employees to leave. Two people were detained and taken away, the outlet reported.
The base was reportedly to be used as a staging area for a federal deployment into the area. Many federal agents had arrived at the base ahead of a planned immigration action. As we reported, President Donald Trump called off that surge after talks with the San Francisco mayor and what he believed was progress. Meanwhile, Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi (CA-11) was making things worse by threatening federal agents with potential arrest and calling an immigration raid an "abuse of power."

Homeland Security released a statement saying that the driver had been hit in the stomach and was being held for a mental health evaluation.

I assume federal authorities will be chatting with the person, and we will find out more. The FBI is now involved in investigating the matter, so it won't just be the local folks looking into this.
