Mike Johnson Levels the 'No Kings' Protests With a Little Reality

Leftist groups, joined by many Democratic politicians, had their "No Kings" protest on Saturday.

My colleague Jennifer Oliver O'Connell had a great breakdown of some of the hot takes from the events. Of course, the funniest thing was how pointless it all was. There were no kings before the protest. And, lo and behold, there were no kings after it.

What an amazing success!

So what exactly was the purpose of all this, apart from being an effort at performance art? It was a whole lot of nothing.

The Democratic politicians, like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, joined the protest to soothe the leftist base and attempt to fend off a challenge to his seat that is likely to come in any event. So I'm not sure he even got much out of it.

But Speaker of the House Mike Johnson had a great comment on the "No Kings" protests on ABC with Jonathan Karl, where he just laid out how ridiculous and lacking in reality this whole effort was.

β€œIf President Trump was a king, the government would be OPEN right now. If President Trump was a king, they would not have been able to engage in that free speech exercise.”

He pointed out how the mall was open so the leftists could protest there, unlike what happened when Barack Obama was the president, and he closed down the National Parks' services in 2013. That was so he could make the American people hurt and try to force the hands of Republicans. Trump, the "king," not only isn't doing that, he's doing things like finding ways to keep the military paid, by repurposing other funds to make sure they are paid. But if not for that, the military not being paid would be on the heads of the Democrats.

"They needed a stunt, they needed a show. Chuck Schumer needs cover right now," Johnson continued. "He's closed the government down, and he needs political cover. And this is part of it."

It's about the Democrats trying to convince their people that they're doing something against the "evil Trump,” while he's the one bringing more peace to the world. It’s not living in reality. And what they're missing, of course, is that they are not the ones "saving democracy." We are a constitutional republic, not a pure democracy. But the American people voted for Trump and his policies. The left is standing against that "democracy." They were standing with the Communist Party which was one of the groups involved in the protest.

The Trump team had some fun mocking them in return on Bluesky with videos depicting Trump as king.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
