There's going to be an investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. There are already big questions about how a shooter was able to get up on a roof within reach of the president, when all the roofs should have been checked out and secured.
Trump was shot in the ear, rally attendee Corey Comperatore was killed after he bravely shielded his wife and daughter from the bullets, and two others were critically injured. (Happily, those two people are now reportedly in stable condition.)
We reported how people were warning about the "guy on the roof" before he fired any shots. There was this upset witness, who was one of the people trying to tell the police about the guy. He said he was trying for minutes to alert police:

He also asked why the Secret Service was not on the roof to begin with, which is an excellent question.

There was also this video of people yelling that the man had a gun, seconds before the shots rang out:

But now there's another disturbing report from the AP:

Not long before shots rang out, rallygoers noticed a man climbing to the roof of a nearby building and warned local police, according to two law enforcement officials.
One local police officer climbed to the roof and encountered Crooks, who pointed his rifle at the officer. The officer retreated down the ladder, and Crooks quickly took a shot toward Trump, and that’s when Secret Service snipers shot him, said the officials, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.
This is incredibly concerning if true. We don't know all the facts, but it's obviously something that needs to be answered here. Why did the cop not respond more, if in fact he was there, confronting the man with the rifle? Why did he retreat down the ladder, which then allowed the shooter to take a shot at Trump?
This report says the shooter "took a shot," when the shooter took multiple shots, according to other reports. The report doesn't account for that discrepancy.
Then, where was the Secret Service? Why is a local cop going up a ladder? The counter sniper did take the shooter out ultimately.
A lot of questions here. Trump's lucky to be alive, maybe because he was turning to point out the diagram about illegal immigration. Incredibly providential, as we could see in the series of pictures that NY Times photographer Doug Mills got.
We'll find out more in the investigation, hopefully. But we'll need to hear when people start pointing it out, how long was it before there was a response, and why didn't they move Trump off the stage when it sounds like this period may have involved minutes?
