The crisis at the border reached a peak this past week, with the highest number of encounters ever of people crossing the border illegally, at over 10,000 a day. Even Joe Biden was forced to admit that things might be “chaotic for a while.”

But that didn’t stop Joe Biden from going off on yet another one of his weekend vacations to his beach house in Delaware. Kamala Harris, his “border czar” also seemed to be among the missing.
However, the media did manage to catch up to him while he was on a bike ride with the Secret Service in Gordons Pond State Park in Rehoboth Beach on Sunday evening.
Naturally, the reporters asked about the border and he replied, getting snotty with them, “Much better than you all expected.” He then laughed.
Reporter: How do you think things are going at the border, sir?
Pres. Biden: Much better than you all expected ha ha.
Reporter: Do you have any plans to visit the border?
Biden: Not in the near term, no. No, it would just be disruptive, not anything else. pic.twitter.com/GXvv32APOu

He said he didn’t have any plans to visit the border in the near term, saying it would “just be disruptive, not anything else.” He said they had “a lot more work to do, but they needed “more help from Congress.” That takes some kind of gall, to blame Congress for his years of failure to keep the border secure.
Biden didn’t, of course, mention anything about the peak illegal entries hit this week or the Afghan national on the terror list who entered illegally and was nabbed at the border. Just how many dangerous people are they letting in, not to mention all the people who are just getting away and are never encountered?
As we reported previously, DHS head Alejandro Mayorkas was bragging about a 50 percent drop. But he was measuring that “drop” against the surge in the middle of the week when it was the highest ever, there were still thousands pouring across every day. The numbers are still overwhelming the system. So Mayorkas’ claim is misleading. As Bill Melugin reported, the numbers were down because of the Mexican and the Texas authorities interdicting people. So Mayorkas and now Biden were taking credit for the actions of others. Melugin also said the CBP indicated that the numbers were likely to rise again.
Biden also answered a few other questions, including on the negotiations over the debt ceiling and on the election in Turkey.
He gave one heck of a brilliant answer on Tukey saying, “I hope whoever wins wins. There’s enough problems in that part of the world.” Huh? Was he trying to cast doubt on the election? That likely isn’t going to look good in Turkey. It looks like the election is going to a run-off at this point, but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is leading.
Regarding the debt ceiling, he sounded positive, stating:
It’s never good to characterize a negotiation in the middle of the negotiations. I remain optimistic because I am a congenital optimist. But I really think there is a desire on their part as well as ours to reach an agreement. And I think we’ll be able to do it.
As with everything else when it comes to Biden, he made the situation worse by refusing to meet with the Republican congressional leaders for months. Now he’s trying to spin his way out of it.
