Bill Melugin Brutally Fact Checks Jen Psaki's Claim About Illegal Aliens Not Intending to Stay

On Monday, Fox’s Peter Doocy left White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki a stammering mess when he asked her about whether the thousands of illegal aliens camped out under the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas, were being asked if they were vaccinated or if any of them were being tested. The context of this question was the announcement by the Biden Administration that they would be requiring vaccination for foreign nationals to enter the country. Except, of course, for illegal aliens at the border.

Psaki just gave the most nonsensical answer ever: that the people entering illegally were “not intending to stay here for a lengthy period of time. It’s not the same thing.” As I pointed out, that made absolutely no sense. Of course they intend to stay, that’s why they came. Plus you don’t have to stay long to spread a virus, a day is enough, so it’s silly from a virus-spreading point of view.

But Fox’s Bill Melugin, who has been doing great coverage from the border on the Del Rio situation, had a few things he wanted to say in response to Jen Psaki. “That’s news to them,” Melugin said. “They intend to stay. They know if they just step on U.S. soil they will have a chance to stay.”

Melugin makes it clear that the Biden Administration’s claim that people were being deported is not true, that most are simply being released into the country.

Two US officials also confirmed this today to the AP, saying thousands were just being released into the country.

Haitians have been freed on a “very, very large scale” in recent days, according to one U.S. official who put the figure in the thousands. The official, who has direct knowledge of operations, was not authorized to discuss the matter Tuesday and spoke on condition of anonymity. [….]

A second U.S. official, also with direct knowledge and speaking on the condition of anonymity, said large numbers of Haitians were being processed under immigration laws and not being placed on expulsion flights to Haiti that started Sunday. The official couldn’t be more specific about how many.

They’re coming because they believe under Biden, they will get to stay, Melugin says they’ve told him. And largely that’s been true.

This is with most of the folks not coming directly from Haiti but having lived in South America for years with jobs and/or resident papers which would kill their asylum claims.

The Biden Administration has been trying to sell us a story here about the situation. And once the world was really looking at what was going on in Del Rio, they wanted to make it go away. But instead of actually solving the issues, all they’re really doing is releasing people and flying those who haven’t been vaccinated or tested all around the country in the process.
