Obama Throwing Huge Birthday Bash as Delta Variant 'Surges'

We’ve seen over the course of the pandemic that politicians are fine with enacting mandates and restrictions on Americans but they often just blow off those rules and restrictions themselves.

We’ve seen all kinds of examples of “Rules for thee but not for me.” In the past week, we saw Mayor Muriel Bowser announce a mask mandate for Washington, D.C. on Thursday. But she didn’t set it to go into effect until Saturday. Meanwhile, on Friday, she had her birthday party maskless with a lot of other maskless people, a D.J., and comedian Dave Chapelle. So it looks like she manipulated the mandate to be after her party so she could have it maskless. But even after her mandate went into effect, on Saturday night, she officiated at a wedding with hundreds of other unmasked guests and she was busted again being maskless. When she was approached by the Washington Examiner, she was hustled away by her security.

While Barack Obama may no longer be in power (at least officially), he’s backed the restrictions on people. But it turns out that when it comes to his big 60th birthday party, advisories against big parties don’t really apply to him as the Delta variant “surges.”

From NY Post:

Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, told CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday that people need to use “common sense” before having large gatherings.

“If you’re talking about a small party like I might have at my house for six or eight people who are all fully vaccinated, I do not believe, at this point, we need to put masks on to be next to each other,” Collins said.

“But if there were 100 people, and, of course, how are you really going to be sure about people’s vaccination status?” he asked.

“Then the dynamic changes a little bit. There will be some need for common sense there,” he said.

According to the Vineyard Gazette, there were 24 positive Covid-19 tests reported last week in Martha’s Vineyard — the largest number since late May, with a significant percentage coming among fully vaccinated residents. Cape Cod is also where there were a lot of breakthrough cases in Provincetown in an outbreak that, in part, contributed to some of the new mandates.

But Obama is having a party of nearly 700 people: 475 guests including Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, and Steven Spielberg, with Pearl Jam playing and about 200 staff helping out. This is also while a lot of folks on the left are steaming over the handling of the eviction moratorium question so it’s pretty tone-deaf to his own leftist base.

The party will be outdoors at his Martha’s Vineyard $12 million 30 acre waterfront estate. They said that people will be asked to be vaccinated with a “COVID coordinator” to ensure proper protocols. But it’s not clear how they will ensure that or what proof would be required and whether guests will be required to wear masks.

Obama is most definitely blowing off the general guidance from the Biden bunch against large gatherings. But that guidance is only for us to follow, not elite Democrats like Obama. Biden wouldn’t be at the party, by the way, which shows how close they really are, when he’s invited everyone and their mother to be there.

But let’s be real. If this were President Donald Trump throwing this party, the media would be up in arms attacking him, saying he has no shame as the Delta variant “surges.” Yet, they are curiously missing in the condemnation here.
