Polling Shows Americans Are So Over Dr. Anthony Fauci

It’s probably safe to say that a lot of Americans are so over Dr. Anthony Fauci at this point.

While some on the left have made him into some sort of a pandemic hero, a new survey is showing that Americans’ opinion of Fauci has taken a dive since last year.

According to the Washington Examiner, a new survey from Trafalgar Group asked Americans, “Has your confidence in Dr. Fauci gone up or down in the past year?”

The response showed that 42.2% said it had, 12.1% said it had decreased, and 30.1% said it had decreased significantly.

There was a party-line split in some of the opinion, with 66.1% of Republicans being less confident and 32.4% of Democrats being more confident. But overall, Americans were less confident. But the people with no party affiliation were twice as likely to say their confidence decreased rather than increased, by 41.7 percent to 20.4 percent.

Notably, this was even with Democrats being oversampled, as happens in many polls, with 39.3 percent Democrats, 35.6 percent Republicans, and 25.1 percent who were categorized as “non-partisan/other.” The survey was conducted between May 16 and May 18 with a sample size of 1093 people.

Another survey published last week from You Gov and Yahoo also showed that party split, with 55% of Republicans ranking his job rating as “poor” and 54% of Democrats saying he was doing an “excellent” job. Among Republicans, 61% said Fauci hurt Americans more than he helped. The overall breakdown said 46% thought he helped more than he hurt, but once again Democrats were oversampled in the poll. The survey was taken between May 11-13.

Now, this is in the face of all his flip-flops and Democrats building him up as some sort of counterpoint to President Donald Trump. What should be pretty fascinating is that now he’s acknowledging that the question of a lab leak needs to be investigated more, what will that do his being turned into a hero by the left?

Will the left finally get that this is a legitimate question and concern? Will they acknowledge any of the other questions being raised about gain-of-function research raised by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)? Or will they, too, finally throw Fauci under the bus? It’s worth asking if we will finally get some real investigation into the matter and some pressure to hold people — including China — accountable.
