This one comes under the heading of everything is connected and some things are stranger than you would think.
We’ve been reporting on the shooting of Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.
Turns out that, in an odd twist of fate, George Floyd’s girlfriend was an administrator at Daunte Wright’s high school, according to her.

According to the Daily Mail, Wright’s relatives and supporters assembled near the Minneapolis courthouse where Chauvin is standing trial and talked about Wright. They were met there by Courtney Ross. Courtney Ross was Floyd’s girlfriend for three years until his death. She used to work as a dean at Edison High School where she knew Daunte Wright.
He was a ‘silly boy, as goofy as can be,’ and ‘needed a lot of love,’ Ross told the Washington Post.
‘Students like Daunte needed more resources but they never got more resources,’ she told the publication.
‘Our system doesn’t serve kids like Daunte. And now I’m seeing, more than ever, this system I once believed in, we’re done doing what we need to be doing to protect Black life.’
Some gaps in early Daunte Wright coverage. Police apparently stopped him for expired tag. Not unusual. But what was warrant? Apparently for Dec 2019 aggravated robbery. Released on $100k bail, bail revoked after alleged gun possession. Warrant issued. https://t.co/Fm5JAZYeqy

As we reported earlier, Wright had a warrant out for him, and a pending criminal matter in which he was accused of aggravated robbery stemming from a 2019 incident in which he allegedly choked a woman and held her at gunpoint in an attempt to steal $820 dollars. After being released on bail, the warrant was issued and his bail revoked because Wright was in possession of an illegal gun.
Wright obviously had issues, although that didn’t mean that he should have been shot in this instance. But “silly boy” and “goofy” isn’t what you think of in such an alleged aggravated robbery. If she thought that he needed more resources, I’m kind of curious as his dean, why she, who would be responsible for some of those resources, didn’t help him more? Not to say that it would have helped, but she seems to skip right over the school’s responsibility while blaming them.
