A slew of Democrats have now called upon New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign including as of today, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) who issued a joint statement as we wrote about earlier today.
But perhaps the most interesting statement was actually that of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). Unlike Schumer and Gillibrand who issued an extremely brief statement just mentioning the sexual harassment allegations, AOC spoke about the nursing home scandal and the New York Attorney General’s finding in her report that Cuomo’s hid nursing home data from the public and the state legislature.
After two accounts of sexual assault, four accounts of harassment, the Attorney General’s investigation finding the Governor’s admin hid nursing home data from the legislature & public, we agree with the 55+ members of the New York State legislature that the Governor must resign. pic.twitter.com/jV5dwtuVPr

Other Democrats have been very reluctant to weigh in on the nursing home scandal because there are other Democrats beside Cuomo who made similar orders although they may not have gone to his great lengths to cover it up. So good on her for laying it all out there.
Cuomo and Gillibrand were too cowardly to even mention it because they’ve been supporters of Cuomo. But the removal of their support still was very consequential.
But it’s been the progressives in large measure who haven’t been shy about going after Cuomo. Perhaps in part because Cuomo isn’t a progressive, in fact, has stood in the way of their ascendance in New York for some time. If he were gone, that would no doubt help their rise.
It also seems pretty clear that that at this point his backers have removed any protective support that has enabled him to get away with everything for years.
All of this is clearly weighing on him despite his effort to spin and suggest he’s just somehow a victim of “cancel culture.” Thirty women have now come alleged that they were bullied, harassed or sexually assaulted by Cuomo.
A Reuters picture hit the wires today and it just encapsulated the weight now on top of him.

Not long after New York Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand issued a joint statement calling on Cuomo to resign: https://t.co/EhI8vu9E9B https://t.co/2j8f18wHwT

It reminds me of that scene in ‘Titanic’ where the guy who had been one of the people behind the ship, who snuck off the ship pretending to be a woman. Same energy. Cuomo is desperately trying to figure out if there’s any way to salvage himself and with the departure of Schumer and Gillibrand he knows he’s in big trouble. He’s covered in a blanket, holding a bottle in his hands. (It’s Saratoga water, but looks like a beer bottle).
People had some great responses to the picture.
We now have his official portrait figured out! https://t.co/qlwKEVsUvb

But there’s no doubt that Janice Dean who has been carrying the fight for justice against Cuomo perhaps more than anyone had the perfect responses.

The 15,000 dead seniors and the cover up is probably also contributing to his blankie

Mob boss who pretended he was insane who walked around outside in a bathrobe to prevent his case from going to trial.

That about sums it up.
