As I reported yesterday, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse just seemed to go into loony conspiracy land in an effort to attack the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett.
Whitehouse didn’t actually question or attack any of the qualities of Barrett for the seat.
Instead he ranted on for a full thirty minutes, spinning webs about “dark money” and shockingly, conservative organizations pushing to have conservative justices.
What was hilarious was he had all these charts by which he thought he was hammering the evil conservative conspiracy, even having a chart with the words “The Scheme.”
Whitehouse: “This, more and more, looks like it’s not three schemes — but it’s one scheme. With the same funders selecting judges, funding campaigns for the judges, & then showing up in court in these orchestrated amicus flotillas to tell the judges what to do.” pic.twitter.com/iBqVKAJQYn

Whitehouse was at it again today but today he just got relentlessly mocked for his silliness.
Look out! Sheldon Whitehouse has got his charts out again! pic.twitter.com/FhtB3E3Z1v

Starting to think Whitehouse may need therapy for this cardboard fetish. pic.twitter.com/DvGUZB50Tp

Sheldon Whitehouse had 50 minutes to question #JudgeBarrett.
Instead he pompously lectured her, interrupted her 10 times, and only let her speak for 3 minutes and 35 seconds.
Will a single CNN or MSNBC talking head cry “mansplaining”?
Not holding my breath.

Did Democrat Senator Sheldon Whitehouse blow his budget yesterday on his conspiracy theory charts?
The quality has significantly declined today. #ConfirmACB pic.twitter.com/uwVsX2cQI4

Barrett did her best to hold it together during his rant today, but couldn’t help this quizzical look, that we all likely had.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) not only mocked Whitehouse’s charts and his “red fuzzy yarn” connections, he pointed out Sen. Whitehouse’s monetary backers. He also noted that one of the ‘dark money’ Democratic groups was outside the building today, lobbying against Barrett in person.
"I wish Sen. Whitehouse were here…I was feeling a little bit bad that I didn't have a chart with red fuzzy yarn…"
In the words of Whitehouse: "think about it."

Seriously, Democrats talking about dark money is like everything else they do: they always project what they themselves are doing. Russia collusion? It was actually the DNC/Hillary who paid for the Russian disinformation. Dark money? They have three times as much, as Cruz explains. What does any of this have to do with whether Amy Coney Barrett is qualified? It’s just a chance to play to their base and pretend to be doing something while they get steamrolled by an excellent candidate who will be confirmed. But as Cruz said, Barrett is just too qualified and the Democrats have nothing.
