This is the week Donald Trump has taken back the Oval Office, and from his inauguration onward the press has been displaying what appear to be the tendencies we can expect from them in the following years. What we have so far seen is a combination of the expected tactics from the media in targeting Trump, but at the same time they appear to be rather toothless this time.
There are the predictable worst-case projections and also what are boilerplate arguments; racism, Nazism, authoritarianism, and on and on are trotted out. The amazement in this is how these are the very failed practices that has seen the audiences leaving the press, to say nothing of paving the way for Donald Trump to retake D.C.
The irony is they are reporting on the inaugural of the man in the fashion that brought him to the inaugural moment – and they do not grasp this reality as they do so.
