South Carolina is pretty much Joe Biden’s last stand.
He is predicted to win and his numbers have improved since last week, in the wake of the last debate, an important endorsement from House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn and perhaps a great coalescing of the non-Bernie Sanders vote. So the establishment will promote it as a “Biden comeback,” no doubt.
But the question is if it’s too late to catch and head off Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) who still is the national leader for the nomination, and expected to pull a lot of votes on Super Tuesday on March 3.
So it’s a critical time for Biden.
But Biden is still being Biden, and gaffing up a storm.
He was before what looked like a largely African American crowd in South Carolina when he said, “I’m looking forward to appointing the first African American woman to the United States Senate.”

Um, what? I think he means the U.S. Supreme Court. Perhaps fortunately for him, his audience appears to have started clapping before he finished and likely didn’t hear the completely fail end of the sentence.
By the way, Carol Moseley Braun was the first black female elected to the U.S. Senate, Joe. Then of course he should have been familiar with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), his former opponent in the race, if he couldn’t remember Braun. But before Harris dropped out, Biden touted Braun’s support, saying he received the backing of “the only African-American woman that’s ever been elected to the U.S. Senate” and Harris had to remind him that she was standing there.
But wow, we all apparently missed when the Constitution was amended to allow a president to appoint senators.
Of course, last week, he was saying he was running for the Senate.

Apparently when Biden went back in time in the DeLorean, changed the Constitution, AND somehow prevented Carol Moseley-Braun from becoming the first African-American female Senator pic.twitter.com/KI0TkLoh5P
