There are a lot of people who President Donald Trump has broken and revealed to be completely bankrupt in their principles.

It’s one thing if you are/were a Republican and don’t like Trump. It’s quite another if you then declare yourself a Democrat, a la Bill Kristol, or support a Democrat for president, given the far left tilt of the Democratic Party. You cannot claim to be standing for “principled conservatism.”

But there’s even another level of broken if you then will vote for a socialist.

That’s the position that some “Never Trump” folks suddenly realize they may be finding themselves in if Sen Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is the nominee of the Democratic Party. As my colleague Sister Toldjah has opined, some of the Never Trumpers have tried to avoid that eventuality by promoting other possible choices among the Democrats.

But former self-proclaimed Republican and MSNBC anchor Nicole Wallace has taken that step off the cliff and now said that she would support Bernie Sanders.

Wallace, who once served as White House communications director for George W. Bush, left the Republican Party after Trump and has been bashing him nonstop ever since; this while she covers MSNBC political events.

On Tuesday, Wallace made it official on her show “Deadline: White House,” saying she had no problem voting for Sanders.

“I’m on the record. I will vote for whomever — I will, I will gladly and easily and handily vote for Bernie Sanders if he’s the nominee. This is not personal,” Wallace said before raising concerns about a far-left candidate’s electability.

“How do you, as a Democratic Party, tell everyone to get behind someone who is … and I have no fricking clue what democratic socialist means, but everyone thinks that’s what he is, and it sounds scary,” she said.

Wow. Let me help you out, Nicole. “Democratic socialist” is a term used to make “socialist” sound more palatable, and yes, it is scary.

But even though she has no idea what it is, she’ll still vote for it over someone who has governed more conservatively than the Republican president she worked for and his father? Who has actually achieved Republican goals on immigration, judicial appointments, tax cuts, deregulation, business and wage growth, and record low unemployment? How broken are you by your TDS?

Wallace has been a festival of crazy when it comes to coverage of Trump, as Becket Adams observes in a great piece on her.

In August 2019, for example, she claimed Trump was paving the way for the total extermination of Latinos. Wallace told viewers that Trump may try to imprison journalists if he wins reelection in 2020. She claimed the president would have “blood on his hands” if minority members of Congress ever fall victim to a “racially inspired attack.” Wallace also compared Trump to Adolf Hitler, claiming the president’s embrace of the term “nationalist” is just like what happened in Nazi Germany.

She’s even referred to Trump as “the enemy” and said she would vote for an “automobile” over him.

The dirty secret is this: Wallace does not have a show because of her trenchant political analysis or her supposed connections. She has not been involved directly in GOP politics or a campaign since 2008. Wallace has a show on MSNBC because she offers more of what its viewers want, but with the added twist that she has the word “Republican” somewhere in her title. Media love anti-Republican “Republicans” because supposed GOP “insiders” such as Wallace provide audiences with the spectacle of red-on-red violence. It does not matter that her commentary is indistinguishable from what her colleagues at MSNBC have to say, with the added downside that it is also pedestrian. Wallace, who says she will “gladly and easily” vote for socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont in the 2020 general election should he win the Democratic nomination, attacks the Right with her lifetime credential as a “Republican,” and that makes for good drama.

But just remember, media “doesn’t pick a side.”
