The Iraqi parliament has voted to “work on a plan” to end all foreign troops in Iraq. This was pushed by pro-Iranian MPs, some Sunni politicians and pro-Iraq politicians boycotted the vote.
This may be no more than a face-saving measure by the pro-Iran boys in parliament because the other MPs surely would miss the billions in aid they’ve been getting from the U.S. to help the government.
As my colleague Streiff reported earlier, part of the confusing situation there is that we are propping up the government, providing them support, but Iran has been seeding its people in positions of power.
So while most of the Iraqis want Iran out, Iran has substantial power in the present government.
This problem was facilitated by the Obama administration’s coddling of Iran. It’s not a secret or surprise that Iran has been trying to take over Iraq from within but the Obama administration didn’t just sit by while it happened, but made conscious decisions that helped it to happen, as the Free Beacon reports.
Former vice president Joe Biden reportedly played a decisive role in enabling recently assassinated Iranian terror leader Qassem Soleimani to push the United States out of Iraq and deliver the country into the hands of Iran.
In 2010, as Iraq faced pivotal elections that decided the country’s direction, Soleimani went to great lengths to ensure Iranian-backed politicians won control of the government, according to a comprehensive 2013 New Yorker profile of the terror leader by Dexter Filkins.
During that time, Filkins reported, then-vice president Biden called pro-America Iraqi politician Ayad Allawi to demand he stop trying to form a government. This crucial call paved the way for Soleimani to orchestrate an Iranian takeover of the Iraqi political system, according to interviews Filkins conducted with numerous sources.
Pro-American Allawi had won the largest number of seats and could have gotten a majority, he believed, with U.S. help. But that help wasn’t forthcoming. Instead, Biden threw him under the bus, he told Filkins “He told me that Vice-President Joe Biden called to tell him to abandon his bid for Prime Minister, saying, ‘You can’t form a government.'”
Yet Biden attacked Trump after he killed Soleimani, claiming he was tossing “a stick of dynamite into a tinderbox.” That takes some nerve, given the mess that he and Obama left in Iraq.
“The Americans knew that Suleimani had pushed them out of the country but were too embarrassed to admit it in public,” Filkins reported.
“‘We were laughing at the Americans,’ the former Iraqi leader told me, growing angry as he recalled the situation. ‘F—k it! F—k it!’ he said. ‘Suleimani completely outmaneuvered them, and in public they were congratulating themselves for putting the government together.'”
Allow said this basically handed the country over to the Iranians. “Iraq is a failed state now, an Iranian colony.'”
The Obama administration also did a variety of things that aided Iran and IRGC terrorist leader Qasem Soleimani in their efforts to secure the Iran Deal.
They sent “pallets of cash” that helped prop up the mullahs and the economy as their people were protesting against them, arguing it was money they were legally owed. But as we previously reported, there are multiple pending judgments for American victims against Iran because of Iranian terrorism, over $56 billion by one count in 2016.
The Obama administration even reportedly interfered in DEA investigations into Hezbollah, which was formed by the IRGC and Iran to harass Israel and commit other terrorist acts.
From Fox News:
The Obama administration gave a free pass to Hezbollah’s drug-trafficking and money-laundering operations — some of which were unfolding inside the U.S. — to help ensure the Iran nuclear deal would stay on track, according to a bombshell exposé in Politico Sunday.
An elaborate campaign led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, known as Project Cassandra, reportedly targeted the Lebanese militant group’s criminal activities. But by tossing a string of roadblocks holding back the project, Obama administration officials helped allow the 35-year-old anti-Israel criminal enterprise to evolve into a major global security threat bankrolling terrorist and military operations, the report added.
“This was a policy decision, it was a systematic decision,” David Asher, who helped establish Project Cassandra as a Defense Department illicit finance analyst in 2008, told Politico. “They serially ripped apart this entire effort that was very well supported and resourced, and it was done from the top down.”
Con Coughlin of the Telegraph reported they even appear to have given Soleimani something like an amnesty after all he had done, as part of the Iran Deal.
From a purely British perspective, he was responsible for training and equipping the Shia militias in southern Iraq who killed scores of British troops during the dark days of Iraq’s sectarian conflict following the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, and was reported to have trained the Taliban in the art of making deadly roadside bombs that killed and mutilated our Service personnel serving in southern Afghanistan.
So you can imagine my amazement when, leafing through the more obscure annexes of President Barack Obama’s “historic” deal with Iran (page 86 of the annex, to be precise), I found that Mr Suliemani – as the White House no doubt now refers to him – has been granted an amnesty and taken off the list of proscribed Iranians – together with a number of senior members of the Revolutionary Guards.
