On Sunday, NBC News’ “Meet the Press” had a panel discussion about how the media and D.C. were obsessed with impeachment.

Then, Chuck Todd made an admission that Democrats and those on the left aren’t going to like – that Americans outside the Beltway were just not concerned about the allegations. Much as they weren’t concerned about the Russia allegations.

Todd explained how they went to the early primary states and asked people what they thought of Democrats’ actions on impeachment against the president. “We went out and tried to find some voters to talk about impeachment. We had to bring it up to them,” Todd said.

He then played a clip of folks they’d interviewed, none of whom said they were for impeachment, according to Fox News.

Minnesota voter Jim Baird definitely dumped all over it. “I think it’s a waste of time,” he said. “You have a bunch of kids fighting and not accomplishing what they are elected for.”

New Hampshire voter Gary Chynoweth played it a little closer to the vest, saying, “I think we have a system of checks and balances, and the way it should work is that the House and the Senate should do what is set out in the Constitution.”

South Carolina voter Tracy Veillette had done her homework on the subject and said she’d actually read the transcript of the July 25th Ukraine call between President Donald Trump and the president of Ukraine that has sparked the controversy, but it didn’t bother her at all. “I read the document, and there was absolutely nothing concerning to me,” Veillette said. “From one President to another, it was absolutely appropriate.”

At this point, a lot of folks, having seen this all unspool. think Democrats simply are playing political games trying to take Trump out (and of course, they’re right).

While NBC had to admit that voters are not buying into it, one member of the panel, New York Times reporter Helene Cooper, tried to spin that response. She said she wondered who NBC was talking to because that hadn’t been her experience with the people she knew, she claimed, saying she was “inundated.” “Whenever anybody finds out I’m a reporter, all they want to ask me about is impeachment, and what’s going to happen?”

“I just wonder, you know… you could have gotten, like, 10 other people saying something completely different,” Cooper added. “It is not as cacophonous out there in the rest of the country as it is here in Washington or in the big cities, I would imagine, but I sort of think that [impeachment’s] still starting to rise.”

She’s surprised that the folks in her circle want impeachment? Yes, that’s exactly the point. Liberal elites in New York and D.C. who have wanted Trump impeached since he won might be obsessing on it. Most others aren’t concerned about the allegations.

But good for “Meet the Press” for actually acknowledging what they found.

As we head into 2020 and the election year, voters are likely to remember who took up all the air talking about Ukraine and Russia while not doing actually doing anything constructive as opposed to who actually brought us the strong economy.

That doesn’t spell good news for Democrats.
