Kids are dumb (they actually don’t have fully formed brains yet), and there are reasons they don’t vote. So should we worry if people want them setting gun policy?

So CBS polled America and got precisely the conclusion they sought out from the start:

More than six in 10 Americans, including most parents, think students should get involved in the issue of gun policy and school safety; just over a third say the issue would be better left to adults.

That sounds bad right, since kids are running around saying stupid things, and don’t understand the importance of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. But don’t worry about it. There are two things that make this poll meaningless:

First off, the question is misleading. They’re not asking if any particular policy should be addressed. They’re not asking if kids should get a say in the decision making process. They’re simply asking if kids should be “involved in the issue.” They’re asking one question, and hoping you’ll interpret it as a loaded question.

Second, it’s not a poll of people who vote. It’s a poll of “adults,” which includes lots of people who can’t vote, and plenty more who simply don’t vote. So it’s not even reflective at all of the electorate.

CBS wants you to think American voters side with the kids walking out today. But this poll doesn’t say that at all, sorry.
