As the sane residents of New York City await (no doubt with bated breath) the mayoralty of stated Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, a senseless Saturday attack on a subway rider starkly illustrated the already-dangerous reality of out-of-control violent crime in America's once-premier city.
According to the NYPD, the 54-year-old straphanger was punched in the face, several times, then stabbed in the stomach after asking another passenger to talk more quietly on his cellphone.
The attacker jumped off the train at the station and was on the loose, police told the NY Post, while the victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition. The attack occurred aboard an E train at the Jamaica Center–Parsons/Archer station in Queens around 11 a.m., police said.
Here's more:
The attack comes a day after a homeless man was arrested for allegedly slashing two men in their faces in a caught-on-video outburst on a busy subway platform in Queens last week.
Tyquan Manassa, 28, was charged Friday in connection to the Wednesday afternoon attacks on the two men on the southbound platform of the E and F train at the Union Turnpike station in Kew Gardens, the NYPD said.
Manassa was identified as the stabbing suspect after cops busted him for a separate, unhinged outburst at the Ward’s Island shelter where he’d been staying Thursday, sources said.
In other words, business as usual in the Big Apple.

In a follow-up interview with the Post, the victim’s daughter said the NYC subway system needs a stronger police presence:
They’re supposed to be on the station. I don’t really see them as much anymore. It’s a crazy world we live in.
The victim's daughter added: “He’s talking, he’s eating, he’s good."
According to the outlet, the victim, a waiter, was "heading home from his restaurant gig" when the senseless attack occurred.
Subway rider, 18-year-old Fatima Shahid, also spoke with the Post about subway violence in the city:
Unfortunately, I feel like it happens so often that it’s kind of like we’re desensitized to it. It does make me feel a little unsafe. I’m glad that I don’t take the train as often as I used to. ... So I feel a little OK, but I know that somebody who does it every day would be scared and feel unsafe.
A 37-year-old man who identified himself as Perry said he was surprised by the stabbing:
No, this is not normal, and not what I’ve heard or seen before. Just hearing this is crazy.
Normal, or not, what are the chances of subway violence — make that overall violence — decreasing in NYC after Mamdani takes office on January 1? After all, we're talking about a left-wing extremist who wants to deploy social workers instead of police officers to respond to 911 calls.
Just one problem: the controversial plan has already been operating in the Big Apple on a small scale, and is failing miserably:
The early results of a program dubbed B-HEARD spell trouble for Mamdani’s proposed $1.1 billion Department of Community Safety (DCS), a signature initiative that his newly announced chief of staff and left-hand woman, Elle Bisgaard-Church, helped craft.
B-HEARD launched in 2021 as a pilot program and only operates in some city neighborhoods, but a bleak audit conducted in May by the city comptroller found it was limping — with a whopping 60% of calls deemed ineligible while more than 35% of eligible calls from mental health professionals never got a response.
“Calls were considered potentially dangerous, were ineligible because a mental health professional was already at the scene, or were unable to be triaged because FDNY EMS did not take the call or all necessary information could not be collected about the person in distress,” the comptroller’s office wrote in a news release at the time.
So, yeah, raise your hand if you think crime will worsen in New York City after Mamdani ushers in his socialist (read: Marxist) mentality to respond to potentially dangerous and violent crimes.
Just as I thought.
