Two points before we begin:
First, if your blood boils easily, you might want to pass on this article.
Second, there are cowards —and then there are hypocritical cowards. Tyler Robinson, the alleged assassin of Turning Point USA co-founder and executive director, Charlie Kirk, is a hypocritical coward — beyond compare.
As President Donald Trump might say, nobody's ever seen anything like it.
According to Washington County (Utah) Sheriff Nate Brooksby on Wednesday, Robinson agreed to surrender to police only if the arrest was peaceful.
It gets worse:
During a press briefing with reporters, Brooksby said Robinson was afraid a SWAT team would harm or even shoot him. Robinson "thought it was 'inevitable' that he would be caught and feared being shot by law enforcement," Brooksby added.
Cowardice to the max? You bet. A level of hypocrisy seldom reached? That, too. But the off-the-charts irony is beyond comprehension by normal, moral, and rational people.
Robinson took Charlie's life in the most brutal way imaginable. In front of — and in close proximity to — upwards of 2,000 young people on a beautiful day. The cold-blooded killer ("allegedly," that is) exploded Charlie's neck with a high-powered hunting rifle. The video is horrific. I have second thoughts about having watched it.
Yet this scumbag coward feared for his own safety. He feared being roughed during his arrest — or worse. What kind of person does that? Where does the evil, followed by beyond-belief cowardice, come from?

Brooksby said he got a call from a retired detective on Thursday, Sept. 11. The detective told Brooksby he “couldn’t fathom” what would come out of his mouth. He said, “I know who Charlie Kirk’s shooter is.”
The detective said Robinson was ready to surrender, but he feared a SWAT team would kill him.
“He knew he was gonna get caught. He didn’t want a big SWAT team hitting his parents’ house or his apartment,” Brooksby said. “He was truly fearful of being shot by law enforcement, so that the conditions were as relaxed and comfortable and almost to the point of inviting.”

Detectives in plain clothes met him outside and escorted him into a building marked “Authorized Personnel Only.” Local law enforcement notified the Salt Lake City FBI office and kept Robinson in an interview room until the FBI arrived on Friday morning.
Officials described Robinson as “quiet and somber” upon his arrival. They said they tried to make conditions “gentle” and “inviting” for Robinson before the FBI and other law enforcement arrived.
“He was sitting on a very comfortable couch with a water bottle in his hand, not restrained,” Brooksby said.
Then this, from Sheriff Brooksby, which is almost incomprehensible:
So, part of the negotiation and getting him to bring himself in was that: that we would treat it as delicate and as soft as possible to make him feel comfortable to where he would show up at my office. And that’s exactly what happened.
I said "almost" incomprehensible because I've watched enough episodes of "Dateline" to know that the paramount priority of law enforcement is to catch the bad guy, whatever it takes — within reason, of course.
That said, Washington County law enforcement officials did what they had to do to catch the bad guy as quickly and safely (for those other than Robinson) as possible.
But the irony of a hypocritical coward who so brutally took away a giant from his beloved wife and young children, not to mention from America, is both astonishing and predictable as hell.
