There He Goes Again: Merrick Garland's DOJ Blocks Republican Access to FBI's Jan. 6 Documents

Fresh off a brutal Wednesday beatdown during a Senate hearing on parents being labeled “domestic terrorists” for protesting Critical Race Training indoctrination of their children, it’s “almost” like Attorney General Merrick Garland is trying to get his ass kicked by Republican lawmakers as often as possible.

Now we learn that the FBI continues to block Indiana Rep. Jim Banks — the leading Republican in the GOP’s investigation into the preparedness and response of the U.S. Capitol Police and other law enforcement agencies to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. So what does Merrick Garland have to do with this?

The FBI answers to the Attorney General, who heads the Justice Department. Any questions?

As reported by Mollie Hemingway and Tristan Justice of The Federalist, the FBI told Banks it would not provide Republicans the same information provided to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s hand-picked politically-expedient committee consisting only of Democrat-appointed members.

In response to a Republican request for information, the FBI fired off a letter to Banks (emphasis, mine).

This responds to your letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), dated September 16, 2021, seeking information provided by the FBI to the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol (Select Committee).

We understand that on October 6, 2021, the Department of Justice responded to your separate letter, dated September I 6, 2021, to the Attorney General. The FBI is working with the Select Committee on an ongoing basis, consistent with House Resolution 503.

We respectfully refer you to the Select Committee regarding issues of access to records and information.

In effect, the FBI sent Banks off to beg Pelosi for the agency’s information on the attack.

As I’m wont to say in these situations, imagine for a nanosecond the histrionic response on the left if the parties were flipped, here. Envision the hysterical hyperventilation of CNN’s snitty Don Lemon and Mr. Potato Head Brian Stelter, or MSNBC hypocrites-extraordinaire Nicole Wallace and Joyless Joy Reid.

And Pelosi being Pelosi, as Hemingway and Justice recounted, the TDS-riddled Speaker took what even she admitted was an “unprecedented” step by refusing the appointments made by Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA), barring Navy officer and Afghanistan veteran Banks and Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) from her pathetic circus.

Nonetheless, in a “fiery denunciation” of Pelosi’s politicization of the select committee, McCarthy publicly announced Banks would lead Republicans’ investigation despite Pelosi’s unprecedented behavior.

On September 3, Banks asked FBI Director Christopher Wray to give Republican lawmakers the same briefing offered to the Democrats on the progress of the agency’s investigation. Partial findings of the FBI’s independent investigation were leaked to Reuters in August, noted The Federalist, which found “scant evidence” that the Capitol riot was “an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result.”

Translation: “Scant evidence” meaning no evidence that Donald Trump was part of some ridiculously-charged “insurrection” of the U.S. Capitol, which is exactly why the FBI —undoubtedly under Garland’s direction — refused Banks’s request for access to the agency’s documents.

“Shockingly,” Wray never responded to Banks’s request.

Finally, Banks wrote another letter to Wray on Sept 16, which the Indiana lawmaker also sent to several other federal agencies.

Pursuant to the rules of the House of Representatives, the minority party in Congress retains the rights to the same information that is provided to the majority party. I ask that you provide me any information that is submitted to the Select Committee.

The FBI director’s response, along with those of the other agencies — all under the control of the Biden administration? Cue the crickets.

Incidentally, the ever-spiteful Pelosi appointed anti-Trump Republican Reps. Liz Cheney (WY) and Adam Kinzinger (IL) to her show trial. Cheney serves as Pelosi’s vice-chair. (See: “Na-na-na-na-na-na.”)

The depth of the hypocrisy of the Democrat Party is equaled only by its dishonesty.
