Another weekend in Chicago, another “song remains the same” level of insanity that can only be described as a war zone on the bloody streets of the Lori Lightfoot-run city’s South and West Sides.

Less than 12 hours. At least 45 people, shot. At least five of them fatally, including a 29-year-old female police officer who had only been on the Windy City’s embattled police force since 2018.

Ella French, a 29-year-old Chicago police officer, is dead after being shot during a traffic stop. Another cop involved in the deadly traffic stop is fighting for his life.

French and her partner conducted a traffic stop in the South Side’s West Englewood neighborhood around 9 p.m. on Saturday night, according to the Chicago Tribune.

There were three people in the stopped vehicle, and at least one of the suspects fired upon the officers, who returned fire. The two cops and one of the suspects were shot.

The downed officers were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, and the wounded suspect was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. Ella French was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the other officer was listed in critical condition.

Yet the clueless Democrat mayor continues to blame GUNS.

Lightfoot said on Sunday, as transcribed The Blaze:

“I am here as mayor to declare an official day of mourning for our city. I also want to address another issue that’s been lashing our city for far too long. There are some who say that we do not do enough for the police and that we are handcuffing them from doing their jobs.

“There are others who say we do too much for the police, and then we never hold them accountable for what they do, particularly in Black and brown neighborhoods. All of this, I say, stop. Just stop. This constant strife is not what we need in this moment.”

Then the politically expedient stupidity went off the charts.

“We have a common enemy. It’s the guns and the gangs. Eradicating both is complex. But we cannot let the size of the challenge deter us. We have to continue striking hard blows every day.”

“We have to continue striking hard blows every day.” That is laugh-out-loud ridiculous. They might as well install revolving doors at Chicago jails and courthouses. Pretty bad dudes are being released into the street as fast as they’re apprehended.

Other than Lightfoot’s reference to gangs, the rest of that last comment was a complete crock of crap. She knew it when she said it. Just like Barack Obama knew it — every time he pulled a hamstring while dutifully rushing to a TV camera to blame guns after every mass shooting. Just like all Democrat lawmakers know it.

And that is obscene. Think about it. Think about Chicago war zones, as well. And yet?

The Democrat Party has pushed this politically expedient narrative for decades. And, why? Say it with me: the voting booth. Meanwhile, record numbers of Black people continue to be murdered on the bloody streets of America’s Democrat-run, economically depressed Black neighborhoods. It is not “white supremacist” to say that. It is not “racist” — let alone the ridiculous notion of “systemic racism.”

It is the truth. Truth substantiated by facts. Substantiated by increasingly out-of-control statistics. Chicago’s South Side has been a bloody war zone for decades.

Remember when former South Side resident Barack Obama rushed to those bloody streets to condemn runaway Black-on-Black violent crime? Me, neither. And he never will.

What the Democrat Party is telling you, America — not only with what they say but even more obscenely what they refuse to say, is politically expedient narrative is more important to them than the Black lives lost and ever-worsening carnage.

Incidentally, as reported by The Chicago Sun-Times on Monday, about 30 rank-and-file Chicago Police officers turned their backs to Lightfoot about midnight on Saturday when she approached them at the hospital in reaction to the shootings of their fellow officers. Fraternal Order of Police — Chicago Lodge #7 President John Catanzara summed it up in an interview with the Sun-Times.

“The police officers’ decision to turn their backs on the mayor while waiting with the family on the 7th floor was significant.

“Turning their backs on the mayor was an excellent example of how the hundreds of police officers felt waiting outside the hospital.

“Officers no longer support Lightfoot’s leadership. They have had enough and are no longer going to remain silent anymore.”

Lightfoot’s office had no immediate response to a request for comment.

Democrats enjoy complete immunity from the “mainstream” media for continuing the ridiculous “guns are to blame,” nonsense. And in the post-George Floyd era of “Black Lives Matter,” “systemic racism” nonsense, the race to play that card every time they’re called out for lies and failures — including Lightfoot.

As my RedState colleague Sister Todjah reported earlier this month, in an article perfectly titled Lori Lightfoot Gives Perhaps Her Dumbest Response Ever When Asked About Her Critics’ Motivations, when asked by a reporter whether she believed the criticisms leveled at her during her time as mayor had anything to do with the fact that she was a woman, “and specifically, a black woman,” the embattled mayor delivered on cue:

“About 99%. Look at my predecessors. Did people say that Rich Daley held tea sessions with people that he (disagreed with)? Rahm Emanuel was a polite guy who was a uniter? No.

“Women and people of color are always held to a different standard. I understand that, I’ve known that my whole life.”

For the record, Rahm Emanuel was far from handled with kid gloves by his critics.

But poor, mistreated Lori Lightfoot. Pretty much lies whenever her lips are moving. Meanwhile, Black Chicagoans continue to die at an increasing rate at the hands of other Black Chicagoans. Bad dudes, most of them. The guys with the guns.

Political expediency has its price. A price Democrat lawmakers have long been more than willing to pay.
